Asst Research Scientist/Engin - Hefti Laboratory

University of Iowa Iowa City, IA (Onsite) Full-Time
The Department of Pathology is seeking a Assistant Research Scientist to carry out human tissue and stem cell based studies of human neurodegenerative tauopathies. Tasks include the design, performance, and evaluation of experimental procedures with full responsibility for efficient use of resources while obtaining high-quality results in each individual study. Tasks also include training of assigned lab personnel, including students, postdocs and visiting scholars. This position is 100% time.

Duties to include:

* Human tissue work/neuropathology
* Stem cells
* Records results, observations, and interpretations for every experiment according to guidelines.
* Monitors quality control parameters.
* Writing manuscripts, presentation in seminars and posters

The Department of Pathology is part of UI Health Care, a comprehensive health sciences center that serves Iowa and the region, as well as patients referred from the United States and overseas. Required Qualifications:

* PhD in pathology, neuroscience, molecular or cellular biology or a related field
* Strong organizational, communication and time management skills.
* Experience in working with human biological samples
* Experience with human neuroanatomy and/or neuropathology
* Ability to communicate with patients, donors, and general public about human brain research
* Excellent organizational and communication skills and ability to work independently.

Desirable Qualifications:

* Practical experience and theoretical knowledge of neuroanatomy and neuropathology, including gross and microscopic examination of human brain tissue
* Experience with Western Blotting, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and or RNA in situ hybridization in human post-mortem brain tissue
* Previous experience with biobanking
* Knowledge of stem cell culture and differentiation
