Our engineers serve in two concurrent roles: Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), ensuring compliance with recognized building, fire, and life safety codes and the owner's representative Subject Matter Expert (SME) advancing innovative, cost-effective, and mission-supportive fire protection solutions. Responsibilities of an Agency Fire Protection Engineer include:

* Review planning, programming, architectural and engineering designs, specifications, and other technical documents for proposed construction activities to validate compliance with applicable codes and standards and to identify optimal fire protection solutions.
* Conduct inspections of new construction and renovations to validate compliance of fire protection/life safety aspects.
* Witness acceptance testing and commissioning of fire protection systems and equipment to validate functional performance.
* Conduct comprehensive fire safety audits, inspections, and investigations of Agency locations & operations.
* Design, install, test, troubleshoot, and repair fire protection systems.
* Investigate fire and explosion events to determine cause, origin, and contributing factors.
* Assist in emergency planning, preparedness, and exercises.

CIA hires Fire Protection Engineers at various career progression levels from entry to senior level. Entry-level personnel will work under the close guidance and supervision of experienced and licensed senior Fire Protection Engineers. More experienced engineers will manage program areas as required.

This position requires a commitment to serve wherever mission needs are located. You must maintain an ongoing readiness to travel and relocate to meet short and long-term organizational requirements both domestically and overseas - including hardship locations.
