As a System Administrator for the IBM-i platform, you will be responsible for the administration, planning, and scheduling of all activities associated with providing support for the entire AS400 landscape.
This includes in Depth Hardware, Operating System, and Software knowledge, to be able to design and plan upgrades to hardware and software to the many sets of systems that United Rentals operates.What you'll do:Day to day system administration:Daily validation of BRMS process to ensure successful completion of critical system backups and address any failuresAnalyze backup process to address any data exposures and modify the process to include any missing libraries, etc.Monitor growth of the backup process from a size and time perspective for future resource planningUtilize knowledge of Data Domain VTL (Virtual Tape Library) to manage the virtual tapes to address growthEnsure application compatibility and license updates in accordance with the OS upgrade planning process including with 3rd party vendors.Leverage working knowledge of iSeries security including profile and user creation and implementation of authorization lists.Install, upgrade and patch operating system and applications including PTFs, OS, etc.Work with application vendor partners to isolate and resolve issues as they arise.Apply knowledge of system tools such as iDoctor, MPG, etc.
that can be used to diagnose system performance issuesCreation of critical documentation for system processes such as backups, HMC environment, HMC environment and RCA (root cause analysis) for any system/application issuesProjects:Effectively troubleshoots system issues and works with other departments to obtain a successful resolution within a short period.Works with management for system performance goals.
Adheres to all United Rentals problem notification and escalation processes when there is a production impacting issue.Maintain continuing education to stay current with industry trends and new technologies.Other duties as assignedRequirements:Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent educational and work experienceMinimum 5 years' experience in infrastructure engineering and operationsMinimum 5 years' experience with AS/400 technologies and architecturesKnowledge of backup and recovery including BRMS, Netbackup, Data Domain VTL, etc.Experience with OS upgrade planning process including working with 3rd party vendorsExperience with installing, upgrading and patching operating system and applications including PTFs, OSLPAR configuration, HMC configurationProgramming; CL, RPG, SQL, and PHPBasic knowledge of networking, cabling, switches, etc.Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skillsStrong vendor management and SLA governance skillsHighly motivated individual with desire to review and improve the support process and proceduresFlexible with availability to monitor or address system issuesWhy join us?We don't just ""talk the talk!""
