Vice President/ Director of Information Technology
POSITION DESCRIPTION
This position encompasses leading the Information Technology (IT), Information Security (InfoSec), and Clinical and Administrative Applications Services for Alive Hospice.
Success in this critical role would be measured by demonstrating incredible balance between developing and executing the technology strategy of a not-for-profit, mission-driven, patient-centered healthcare organization while diligently overseeing and managing infrastructure, IT service management and support, and application delivery.
Key aspects of the infrastructure include oversight of premise and cloud-based service models, networks (including phone systems and data networks), mobile devices (including phones/iPads).
With respect to Infosec, the organization must comply with HIPAA Privacy and Security regulations and operates as a Covered Entity. Currently, this position is responsible to fulfill the duties of Alive Hospice Security Officer.
The organization provides patient care using Clinical and Administrative applications including Electronic Health Records and other related support tools. Knowledge of clinical applications and their associated use, especially those delivered via mobile/web technologies is essential.
As a non-profit, experience with delivering highly efficient technology solutions with limited access to budget resources is important, as the agency’s focus is always “patient/family first”. Prior experience in a non-profit, or government-based healthcare organizations would be valuable.The organization is dependent on its network of supporters and a strong community board, so experience with senior leadership/board-level interactions, generation of budgets and support materials for new initiatives and strong documentation/presentation skills are important for success. Alignment with the Culture and Values of Alive Hospice are critical as well.
Finally, with the recognition of the budgetary challenges that come with being a non-profit, (coupled with it’s relatively small staff) the “hybrid” nature of this role demands a strong leader with a good heart, an experienced “hardware” person coupled with a passionate, caring strategic leader who comes to the job every day with a willingness to deal with the details and challenges of the day – while remaining professional and focused on the future.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Vast knowledge/experience of leveraging modern technology
  • Survey performance needs and goals of users
  • Manages help desk team members internally
  • IT position is also Alive Hospice Security Officer
  • Interfaces with users, consultants, technical support and vendors for maximum guidance in determining the most appropriate type of hardware installation
  • Designs, specifies, and documents LAN/WAN configurations according to user needs, utilizing outside support resources as appropriate
  • Oversees the customization of LAN/WAN equipment and desktop workstation computers to retrieve information from servers and allow data to be entered from PC’s
  • Educates and trains managers and others on network operations and proper use
  • Prepares checklists and processes for LAN/WAN help
  • Analyzes workload, including traffic and utilization trends
  • Organizes and/or instructs software training programs
  • Develops and monitors appropriate security procedures to safeguard system from physical harm and viruses, unauthorized users, and damage to data from both internal and external sources
  • Manages telephone, voice mail and email systems and nurse call system at the Nashville Residence and the Murfreesboro Residence
  • Orders cell phones and pagers from suppliers; arranges for repairs as needed; keeps records up to date regarding serial numbers and phone numbers assigned to employees
  • Responsible for all aspects of computer hardware, including cabling, and software programs
  • Supervises systems administrator and is responsible to ensure that backups and startup procedures are in place
  • Maintains fax/copiers; arranges for repairs and orders supplies as needed
  • Responsible for the production and maintenance of all new and current employee fobs and building security system access
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises helpdesk staff. Supervises volunteers assigned to IT department and vendor technicians performing on-site repairs, maintenance and/or installation on telecommunication and computer systems and copiers. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years of experience as a leader in IT or the central point of contact within a highly regulated environment; Experience within the healthcare industry preferred
  • Proven experience owning and maintaining processes, standards and policies
  • Ability to identify security vulnerabilities and eliminate them with strategic solutions that increase data safety
  • Highly motivated, results-oriented and proactive, with an ability to prioritize and manage several projects at once
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Exceptional written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong knowledge and experience with PC hardware and software technology as well as Microsoft system administration, file interchange, shared network resources, internet access and electronic mail
  • Demonstrated analytic, written, and oral communications skills.
  • Communication and Relationship Skills: Exemplifies high level of written oral and listening communication skills, always respecting patient confidentiality.

  • Functions consistently and collaboratively as an integral part of Administrative Services Department Team and other teams (committees, etc.) bringing experience and education to contribute to optimal team functions and outcomes.
  • Create and establish yearly financial objectives that align with the company’s plan for growth and expansion
CONTINUING EDUCATION
The agency requires this position to complete 15 hours of continuing education per year covering topics that will contribute to improvement in carrying out the above responsibilities
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor of Science degree (B.S.) in computer science, MIS or equivalent.  Three or more years’ experience and familiarity with LAN/WAN technologies, including multiple network operating systems(NT, LAN/WAN Server), topologies (Token Ring, Ethernet) and protocols (TCP/IP, IXPX/SPX, Netbios/Netbeui) and Wide Area Networking.
