Alesong Brewing and Blending is a boutique, artisan brewery, winery, and cidery specializing in barrel-aged beers and located in a scenic wine country location roughly 20 miles Southwest of Eugene with additional production and office facilities in West Eugene. Founded in 2015, we have been fortunate enough to receive several awards and recognitions including medals at the Great American Beer Festival, World Beer Cup, the Best of Craft Beer Awards, and the Oregon Beer Awards. We were named small brewery of the year at the 2021 Oregon Beer Awards.

We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, and creative leader to join our production team to manage the day-to-day cellar activities and long-term cellar planning. The right candidate for this position will have commercial brewery experience, a passion for craft beer and brewing, strong critical thinking, mechanical equipment knowledge, and strong communication. The production flow at Alesong is very cellar focused with wort production being an important but small aspect of the day-to-day operations. This position is primarily responsible for all activity from sugar to glass- including microbe selection, fermentation specifics, barrel selection, adjunct adds, blending, and packaging. An ideal candidate will have an enthusiasm for all cellar activities, especially those focused on barrel-aging, and will be very experienced in common cellar and packaging processes. Alesong releases an average of 20 new and unique products annually which makes it critical for this position to also be organized and creative.

Primary Responsibilities:

Production Planning

  • Maintain production schedule and logs
  • Manage raw ingredient, packaging material, and cellar supplies inventory and purchasing
  • Maintain Alesong production SOPs
  • Manage detailed barrel logs of all in-process maturing beers
  • Create and manage maintenance schedules for all cellar/ packaging equipment

Lead Cellar Operator
  • CIP cellar and packaging equipment following Alesong’s SOPs
  • Maintain and clean oak vessels using high pressure and steam
  • Process fruits and other adjuncts for blends
  • Actively monitor multiple fermentations and projects that span months
  • Microbe management, including the harvesting and pitching of yeast and/or bacteria in a sanitary manner
  • Operate filtration and pasteurization equipment
  • Carbonating and packaging of beer in kegs and/or a counter-pressure rotary bottling line
  • Participate in sensory evaluations of beer in process and finished goods
  • Provide input on blending and other creative decisions
  • Safely and efficiently move barrels and pallets using a forklift, and pallet jack
  • Must have a high level of quality and attention to detail in all work
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe cellar and warehouse space
  • Stay up-to-date with trade organizations and trends by attending meetings, judging competitions and attending seminars

Other – As a small organization, you will likely be asked to contribute in other areas.
  • Attending occasional promotional events in the trade
  • Work club and tasting room events that relate to new beer releases or are production focused as needed

Required qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in a production brewery
  • Experience using wood vessels for aging beer or wine
  • Passion for the craft beer industry & barrel aged beer
  • Professional, warm and welcoming personal presentation
  • Self-motivated and able to act independently
  • Team player enthusiastic about working together to grow a small company
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time and lift cases/kegs weighing up to 55 lbs
  • Clean driving record & valid driver’s license

Preferred qualifications
  • Formal brewing education
  • Wine production experience
  • Brewery lab experience
  • Ability to drive large delivery trucks and manual transmission
  • Experience managing a team

Reports to: Director of Operations

Schedule: 40hrs / week, Monday thru Friday, with some variability including occasional weekend and holiday work as needed

Compensation: $40,000-$50,000/yr (depending on experience), 2 weeks PTO, 6 paid holidays, company sponsored health insurance, cell phone, $100 monthly tasting room credit & beer benefits.
