Bioinformatics Scientist - LIMS Expertise - NIH - Rockville, MD Kelly Government Solutions is a strategic supplier and business partner to the federal government and its key suppliers. Through our partnership with the National Institutes of Health, Kelly Government Solutions offers administrative, IT, engineering, scientific, and healthcare professionals the opportunity to work with one of the most prestigious research organizations in the world. We are currently seeking a Bioinformatics Scientist to work onsite with the National Institutes of Health in Rockville, MD. OVERVIEW. This is a long-term, open-ended contract position which offers:

  TASKS/SERVICES. The contractor shall:

  • Work with staff on ongoing development of Laboratory of Information Management System for sample tracking, meta-data recording and flow control for a clinical laboratory and high throughput DNA sequencing facility.
  • Work with management and staff to understand laboratory workflows and define requirements to facilitate sample receipt, processing, location management and delivery documentation.
  • Develop tools to extract sample metadata by querying back-end databases for the ad hoc or routine generation of reports via e-mail or web browser.
  • Work with staff on prototyping and testing of new software.
  • Enhance tools to maintain accurate reagent inventory.
  • Collaborate with staff on the design and printing of barcode labels to facilitate convenient and robust tracking of sample containers.
  • Optimize workflows to improve efficiency, fault tolerance and error trapping/recovery.
  • Explore and test commercially available software for continued platform development.
  • Recommend and coordinate internal development of software in areas where commercial software is not adequate.

  REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline; three (3) years of specialized experience plus a Bachelor's degree is equivalent to a Master's degree.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of related experience.
  • Experience with design capabilities using modern technologies.
  • Experience working with a production team, with participation in designing, testing and troubleshooting software.
  • Experience with Java, Javascript, SQL. PL/SQL, Linux and server management, Python, Perl, Object-oriented design and data modeling.
  • Strong communications skills, both oral and written.
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, organizational and time management skills.
