R&D Materials Development Manager
In your new role you will be reporting directly to the North America Director R&D Materials Technology and Compounding and will be leading a team of R&D Engineers and Lab Technicians in the Indianapolis Technology Center. The R&D Materials Development Manager will be responsible for driving wire and cable compounds development in support of key Design to Cost, New Product Introduction, plant support, and security of supply projects for North America business units.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of 3 R&D Engineers and 4 Lab Technicians based in the Indianapolis Technology Center (ITC). Responsible for setting annual goals and objectives, providing continuous feedback and performance reviews, and mapping out career development
- In partnership with the ITC Tech Service team leverage the scope of your role to provide input on timing and relative priority for active ITC Technical Service Requests to drive efficient project completion
- Work closely with the Prysmian Purchasing team to quickly identify and resolve compound and raw materials security of supply issues through approved alternate qualification
- Identify and execute compounds development projects in support of North America Design to Cost (DTC) proficiency Management Plan. Build DTC project pipeline and lead raw materials and compound design DTC projects for Indianapolis Compounds
- Maintain close communication with key internal customer Prysmian NA cable plants and support timely root cause identification and resolution of compounds processing or quality issues
- Collaborate with Product Design Engineering teams to execute materials development and testing in support of New Product Development projects per Management Plan
- Own compound formulation design, documentation, and specifications including relevant raw materials codes and specs in HFA and SAP
- Act as a role model through Prysmian Leadership Values and maintain steadfast commitment to Environmental Health and Safety
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Chemistry, or Materials/Polymer Science
- Experience with compounds development in an industrial/R&D setting with a proven track record of project leadership
- Experience working in cross-functional team including Operations, Commercial, Engineering, and Purchasing
- Managerial experience preferred
- Experience in wire and cable materials design, compounding, and qualification testing preferred
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
- Works out of a normal office environment with standard office equipment available.
- Will be required to sit, bend, kneel, squat, use keyboard, read, write, and speak fluently.
- Employee will occasionally be required to lift and carry objects of 10-30 pounds as needed.
- Employee will be required to work productively and cooperatively in a high-volume, fast paced, highly pressured environment and be able to respond efficiently and courteously to unanticipated problems and crisis.
- This role is not typically exposed to adverse environmental conditions, except excessive eye strain and possible lifting injuries
- When travel is necessary, will be exposed to typical travel environment and surroundings.
