Job Description

The Department of Risk, Insurance and Healthcare Management is home to three areas of study: Actuarial Science, Healthcare Management, and Risk Management and Insurance. The Department consists of 24 faculty members, over 800 undergraduates, 40 actuarial science master-students, and 12 doctoral candidates.

The Assistant Director of Corporate Relations and Events is part of a dynamic team supporting the undergraduate and graduate programs in actuarial science and risk management and insurance. The Assistant Director will work with the Chairperson, Program Directors, faculty, and the Senior Associate Director to manage the placement process for internship and full-time positions for undergraduate and graduate students. The incumbent will also connect the RIHM department to the risk management and insurance professional community by planning and executing major events.

The Assistant Director of Corporate Relations and Events assists in the management of the day-to-day administrative operations of the RIHM Department and recommends office policies and procedures. S/he assists and works closely with the Chairperson, Program Directors, Senior Associate Director and faculty on outreach programs to internal and external stakeholders including executive education programs, alumni and professional organizations, department events, Annual Awards for Excellence Dinner and conferences. The Assistant Director works closely with the Department and Gamma Iota Sigma to manage all of the internship and employment opportunities for RIHM students as well as experiential opportunities. The incumbent manages the 'Road to the Resume Book Process' for students wishing to attend career receptions and assists the Senior Associate Director in coordination of events for the department including seminars, student related conferences and panels, case competitions, high school math competition and other student/faculty related occasions. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree with at least three years of directly related experience in planning and executing small, large, high profile and less-formal events for diverse and distinguished guests. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills & Abilities:
* Demonstrated ability to formulate creative ideas, and to analyze, evaluate, and negotiate details reflective of a successful event.
* Demonstrated ability to proactively and strategically manage comprehensive outreach efforts.
* Demonstrated project management skills, time management, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage details of multiple and complex projects within firm schedules.
* Excellent communication skills sufficient to express ideas and agreements concisely and persuasively, both orally and in writing, to a variety of constituencies.
* Ability to address complex issues utilizing a clear, thoughtful manner, and to come to resolution quickly without jeopardizing the event or relationships with people involved.
* Demonstrated proficiently in Microsoft Office Suite.
* Demonstrated ability to multi-task, including the ability to manage multiple projects and events simultaneously and efficiently, meet deadlines and achieve executional excellence.
* Strong interpersonal skills along with the ability to effectively interact with executives, all levels of management, staff, faculty, students and alumni.
* Ability to manage various types of events, including student workshops and conferences and events for over 200 people, coordinating hospitality, promotion, logistics, follow-up, etc.
* Attendance is required for evening and weekend events.

Preferred:
* Supervisory experience.
* Experience in professional development coaching in resume writing, interview preparation and job search strategies; managing professional development programs; and presenting to large and small groups.
* Demonstrated knowledge of the risk management and insurance industry in the Delaware Valley and success in connecting to the business community.
* Experience planning and managing events involving the risk management and insurance community.
