Join our team! Laredo Medical Center's (LMC) Skilled Nursing unit is now hiring a Full-Time Activity Coordinator to work at LMC's 326 bed acute care hospital. The department is an 18 bed unit in the main campus of Laredo Medical Center. Opportunities to work with the geriatric population as well as rehab for many other needs including surgical, neuro, cardiac and more. What will you be doing?

The Activity Coordinator gets to know each patient's likes and goals to develop activities for the  planning and implementation of an activity program to meet residents' needs while hospitalized. The position's goal is to encourage socialization, provide entertainment, relaxation, and improve daily living skills of the patients. A qualified applicant will rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals for the betterment of the patient while hospitalized. Throughout the day, you will perform a variety of tasks. The patients are short-stay unlike traditional nursing homes. Essential Functions and job tasks will include:

• Patient Safety Monitoring- Safety is a priority for our employees and patients. This role will actively screen employees, physicians and visitors using both a questionnaire and by performing temperature checks, to ensure the wellness for all is monitored.
• Monthly Activity Coordination- Responsible for monthly calendars to reflect activities,  initiate and complete individualized care plans which includes activity interest and needs,  plan and assist with Resident Council meeting and plan.
• Daily Patient Activity Delivery- Responsible for meeting and assessing new inpatients to develop individual activity plans. Performing visitations for existing patients to carry-out the designed activity for the day.
• Reporting- Recording the required information on each patient in the designated sources for documentation.
• General Care- Once activities are completed, nurse aide duties to ensure any patient needs are delivered directly or indirectly with care coordination of the unit's clinical team

This role works under general supervision of the Director of Skilled Nursing with a dotted line to a Occupational Therapist and/or OTA for candidates lacking their Activity Director Certification.

Qualifications: 

Required:

• Valid Certified Nurse Assistance Certificate
• Minimum of (5) years of nurse assistant experience with the most recent 2 years within a long-term care, nursing home or rehabilitative service setting.
• Two (2) letters of recommendation.
• BLS Certification ( If not active/current, the candidate must complete training prior to patient contact.)
• Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field.
• Must successfully pass any pre-employment assessment(s) required by the facility. 

Preferred: 

• Activity Director Certification approved by a recognized credentialing body, such as the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals, National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification, or the Consortium for Therapeutic Recreation Activities.
• At a minimum have one year experience in a social or recreational program, long term care and has completed an activity training course approved by the state of Texas. 
• Two (2) letters of recommendation.
• BLS, Must be completed prior to patient contact. 
• Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field.
• Must successfully pass any pre-employment assessment(s) required by the facility.
