Overview

The Test Engineer provides support to the Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN), Food Applications Regulatory Management (FARM) project. This position evaluates, recommends, and implements automated test tools and strategies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

Designs, implements, and conducts test and evaluation procedures to ensure system requirements are met.

Develops, maintains, and upgrades automated test scripts and architectures for application products.

Writes, implements, and reports the status of system test cases.

Analyzes test cases and provides regular progress reports.

Serves as subject matter specialist providing testing know-how for the support of user requirements of complex to highly complex software/hardware applications.

Directs and/or participates in all phases of risk management assessments and software/hardware development with emphasis on analysis of user requirements, test design and test tools selection.

Adheres to all processes and procedures including change management. Ensures all required documentation is produced and delivered.

Utilizes a broad knowledge of precedents in test engineering and applies understanding of principles of related engineering and automation technology to ensure test validity and integrity.

Provides functional guidance to less experienced test engineers.

Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to any training made available by the company.

Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor’s instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output. Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.

Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and coworkers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions to the best of own ability.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of two (2) years’ relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education / experience. Experience with test automation tools such as HP UFT, Selenium, and JMeter desired, but not required. Experience writing SQL queries.

Experience and understanding of XML.

CERTIFICATES / LICENSES / REGISTRATION

 

JOB SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES

Knowledge of automated testing tools such as HP UFT, Selenium, and JMeter etc

Knowledge of Oracle and Java based applications

Knowledge in conducting security testing

Knowledge in developing operational procedures

Knowledge of the maintenance of complex hardware and software data processing systems

Knowledge in systems engineering and configuration management processes

Strong skills in identifying, isolating and correcting software/system anomalies

Outstanding communication, organization, and problem solving skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Proven ability to manage and prioritize multiple, diverse projects simultaneously

Ability to be flexible, independent and self-motivated

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Exposed to general office noise with computers printers and light traffic.
