The Network Manager of Infection Control and Prevention will be responsible for the management and coordination of all activities related to Infection Prevention & Control (IC &P) across the network. This position will be a highly visible figure in the network and in the public with regards to IC&P issues. The individual will provide epidemiological expertise, strategic vision, and administrative excellence in the development and implementation of the infection prevention program that will include: including infection surveillance and reporting, data analysis, staff education, and performance improvement related to healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). They will ensure that policies, procedures, and systems are in place and adhered to in regard to all measures on infection prevention to align with network compliance.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement network policies for HAI prevention in accordance with evidence-based guidelines as well as federal and state legislation.
  • Ensure accurate reporting of HAIs to CDC and state authorities.
  • Ensure readiness and compliance with accreditation surveys (JACHO, DOH, etc.) with regards to IP issues.
  • Provide expertise and support to clinical, environmental, and facility services to support safe practices consistent with national standards for infection prevention (IP) at the network level.
  • Create network monitoring tools and data reports that assess and benchmark network HAI performance, focus network infection prevention efforts, and monitor quality initiatives.
  • Provide executive level data analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of HAI rates to senior leadership and ensure IP issues are integrated into operational and developmental decisions for the network.
  • Have a dotted line reporting structure with individual IP teams at each network campus and serve in a leadership role on the Infection Control Committees at each network campus
  • Coordinate and manage network HAI PI teams.
  • Integrate new inpatient clinical sites into the network IP structure and ensure smooth transition of network strategies and policies to these sites.
  • Collaborate with network and campus nursing leadership to develop specific performance goals and improvement programs with regards to nursing units and departments.
  • Collaborate with network and campus medical leadership and partner with clinical service lines to develop service specific quality metrics and performance goals for medical staff with regards to HAIs.
  • Create and expand physician champion programs across the network and cultivate more active engagement of the medical staff in IP activities.
  • Coordinate IP education efforts for nursing and medical staff across the network.
  • Assist with Employee Health activities as they relate to IP including development and implementation of vaccination policies and infection screening programs for the network.
  • Provide proactive guidance, expertise, and leadership with regards to emerging infectious disease threats and outbreaks in order to optimize network emergency preparedness activities and reduce organizational risk and exposure.
  • Provide infectious disease expertise and serve as a knowledge resource for nursing and medical staff with regards to other network quality initiatives that involve infectious disease issues.
  • Serve in a collaborative leadership role along with pharmacy in the development, implementation, and management of a robust antimicrobial stewardship program.
  • Collaborate with the microbiology lab to monitor antimicrobial resistance, assist in the implementation of new diagnostic tests related to infectious diseases, and efficiently manage laboratory resources as they relate to diagnostic testing of infectious diseases.
  • Ensure engagement and compliance of network outpatient areas with current IP standards.
  • Collaborate with community partners to ensure effective communication of HAI in patients being discharged from network facilities and extend evidence-based infection prevention practices across the continuum of care.
  • Collaborate as applicable with network development to identify and obtain grant funding for infection prevention projects.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Sit up to 2 hours per day; 1 hour at a time. Stand for up to 8 hours per day; 2 hours at a time. Walk 6 hours per day, 10 minutes at a time. Occasionally lift, carry, push or pull objects up to 25 lbs. occasionally stoop or bend. Must be able to perceive attributes of an object through touch. Must be able to hear as it relates to normal conversation, high and low frequencies. Must be able to see as it related to general, near, far, color and peripheral vision.

EDUCATION:

Licensed in a clinical discipline required; Bachelor's Degree required. Master’s Degree in Nursing or other related field preferred. Certification in Infection Control (CIC) required.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Five years of experience in Infection Control required; candidate will have demonstrated leadership skills and effective and interpersonal and communication skills.
