Trustpoint Rehabilitation Hospital of Lubbock is seeking Patient Care Technicians to join our team!
The Coder, using ICD-10-CM standards, codes, and abstracts medical records for reimbursement purposes. Integrates the hospital’s mission and “Guiding Principles” into daily practice.

The Coder determines the appropriate code with the International Classification of Disease-10th Revision-Clinical modification (ICD-10 - CM); enters codes into billing software accordingly. Reviews the entire medical record when applicable to assign the admitting, primary, and secondary diagnosis to support medical necessity for all services performed. Collaborates with medical records, medical transcription and hospital staff to improve the quality of medical record documentation. Completes physician query forms in accordance with department policy. Assists with orientation and training of new staff when applicable. Researches and or/ locates un-coded charts on unbilled lists. Assists the Business Office with coding related questions, denials, edits and questions. Participates in the government prospective payment system and ensures hospital adherence. Generates required reports. Performs other duties as assigned to support overall effectiveness of the department.
Two years of medical coding experience in ICD-9/ICD-10 preferred.
- Medical Coding Certification preferred.
Current knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding principles, government regulations, protocols, and third party payer requirements regarding coding and billing.
Knowledge of government prospective payment system guidelines preferred.
Working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
Demonstrates general computer skills including: data entry, word processing, email, and record management.
Effective organizational and time management skills.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to maintain quality and safety standards.
Ability to maintain proper levels of confidentiality.
- Ability to work closely and professionally with others.
