We are looking for a talented and highly motivated Senior Research Associate/Scientist I for Yeast Bioengineering. This is a full-time, on-site laboratory position in Pleasanton, California.

Job Description

As a member of the Bioengineering team your responsibilities would include developing novel genetic engineering tools and methodologies, quickly modulating metabolic pathways to produce microbial-based products with market leading properties and executing strain engineering and selection strategies to improve titers of products. The ideal candidate possesses a broad knowledge of cellular metabolism, metabolic engineering and has demonstrated experience engineering yeast and other microorganisms. We're looking for a creative, independent applicant with a positive attitude to collaborate effectively with a cross functional team of molecular biologists, metabolic engineers, chemists, automation engineers, computational biologists, and data scientists to create microorganism-based products with market leading properties.

Primary Responsibilities (not limited to):

* Utilize Inscripta's technology platform to rapidly design, build, and characterize yeast strains, applying cycles of diversity generating edits, and utilizing selective pressures and measurement technologies to select for strains with increased product titers.
* Improve production of small molecules and proteins by optimizing gene expression, enzyme productivity, protein trafficking, and production host physiology.
* Collaborate with the team to develop, optimize and implement novel laboratory techniques, tools and methodologies.
* Collaborate with research groups across the organization to engineer strains to achieve robust fermentation targets.
* Perform literature reviews to help guide ideation, set protocol parameters, and evaluate feasibility of new ideas.
* Think critically and creatively to generate and execute ideas to positively impact project goals.
* Carefully record progress in our ELN and LIMS system.
* Clearly communicate results in both oral and written formats.

Requirements

Desired Qualifications/Experiences:

* BS/BA degree with at least 3 years of additional research experience (or MS degree with at least 2 year of experience or PhD) in molecular biology, genetics, microbiology, synthetic biology, biological engineering or another related field.
* Experience with engineering yeast strains outside of laboratory courses. (Prior experience with S. cerevisiae is a requirement).
* Practice with standard molecular biology methodologies (e.g., DNA parts generation, types of DNA assemblies, nuclease-guided integration, and sequencing pipelines).
* A working knowledge of yeast metabolism and cellular physiology.
* Prior experience with Enzyme Engineering and/or Synthetic Biology.
* Ability to multitask, work efficiently and deliver against deadlines.
* Possesses a positive, can-do attitude.

Additional plusses:

* Experience engineering Pichia pastoris (Komagataella phaffii) and/or E.coli
* Experience with and understanding of Next-gen sequencing workflows, library prep, and/or analysis of sequencing data sets.
* Adept at utilizing automation to assist with complex, high throughput workflows
* Capable of using and modifying existing scripts (e.g. python, JMP, R, SQL) to assist in designing experiments and in performing robust data analysis.
* Has worked previously in a fast-paced or start-up environment.

Inscripta offers a competitive base salary, bonus plan, benefits package, 401k match and an attractive equity program to all team members. Starting salary range: $90,000 - $125,000 per year. This salary range is provided per current averages and expectations. The salary and job title for this opening will be based on the selected candidate's qualifications and experience and may be outside this range.
