The Library Technician collects, organizes and maintains library and records materials for the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). This position assists USPTO and external customers with document and interlibrary loan (ILL) delivery, as well as reference and research services. They will also conduct basic clerical and bibliographic duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Answers simple or routine inquiries and refers customers that require professional assistance.
Verifies bibliographic information upon customer requests.
Performs library and information center inventory maintenance, serial check-in, binding of journals and
added copy entries for an online catalog environment.
Assists with collection maintenance, shelving of materials and materials processing.
Performs simple data entry.
Assists with interlibrary loans including document retrieval (from internal resources and from some Internet resources).
Completes copying, scanning, and saving documents as electronic files, transferring electronic files from one location to another, and document delivery.
Basic knowledge of simple searching methods (author and title searches) in order to perform bibliographic verification and interlibrary loan duties.
May act as a runner throughout the USPTO complex and must be willing to handle large and bulky deliveries.
Performs searches of the information center's online catalog.
Checks translation requests by verifying accuracy and performing a word and page count of the document in order to provide a cost estimation that includes foreign patents, screening requests (per defined criteria) and maintaining simple statistics.
Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to any training made available by the company.
Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor’s instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output. Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.
Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and coworkers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions to the best of own ability.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and a minimum of 3 years relevant experience in libraries or information centers and/or training, or equivalent combination of education / experience.
