Pulsed Power Engineer
Nesco has partnered with a leading global innovator in the field of scientific research and laboratory instrumentation!
The successful candidate will have a firm foundation of analog electronics, transistor theory and power conversion applications, specifically switch mode power supplies. High voltage pulser design is a unique skill set, and the candidate will learn this specialization by working with senior engineers, researchers, and academics in the pulsed power field, as well as through circuit simulation, construction and debugging of product designs, to eventually grow into a subject matter expert.
Responsibilities & Duties:
- Design and development of high voltage (up to 50 kV) and high speed (200 ps) pulse generators. These devices are often designed to order, which requires the ability to interpret customer requirements and develop an appropriate solution by modifying existing designs or creating a new design.
- Capture schematics using design software such as Altium, OrCAD and KiCAD.
- Layout of PCBs up to 6 layers. Alternatively, work with outside layout providers to ensure all layout constraints are met in the final design.
- Participate in project status reviews, specification development and other project activities.
- Hands on lab work to build and debug prototypes, perform system integration, validation testing and other related activities.
- Ability to occasional travel, up to 10%.
Required Skills:
- Experience in product development with a strong background in analog and high voltage electronics.
- Design and test experience with discrete power components such as bipolar transistors, MOSFETs and IGBTs.
- Experience with circuit simulation.
- Experience designing with schematic capture and PCB layout software.
- Ability to manage priorities to meet project needs with minimal supervision.
- Work will be performed in a team-centric environment, candidate must be able to work well as part of a small agile team.
- Computer Skills: Intermediate Word and Excel, basic PowerPoint.
Desired Skills:
- Understanding of microprocessor based systems.
- Experience constructing, debugging, and troubleshooting high voltage systems.
Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent with emphasis on analog / discrete electronics. Advanced degree involving high voltage generation, high voltage fast pulse design or RF experience preferred.
Experience: 5 or more years of demonstrated electronics design and development experience.
