Imagine looking back on that time you spent a summer working on an active volcano. Venture through the park to discover waterfalls, streams, coves, lakes, and wildlife on over 260 miles of hiking trails leading through the old-growth forest of the river valleys and the high subalpine meadows on the flanks of Mount Rainier.

Rainier Guest Services manages Jackson Visitor Center and Paradise Inn located high on the mountain with a gorgeous view of Mount Rainier’s peak, National Park Inn tucked within the lush forest, and Sunrise Day Lodge with its gorgeous meadows and unequalled skyline. Any one of these could be your home for the summer!

We operate year-round, but because Mount Rainier is one of the snowiest places in the lower 48 states, our primary season is the warmest part of the summer from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Our team of around 240 dedicated, talented, and friendly associates serve the summer influx of guests who come to the mountain to experience the same serenity, wonder, and magnificence you’ll experience every day!

JOB DESCRIPTION: PARADISE INN DAY KITCHEN PORTER/ RELIEF STEWART UNIT 8500

JOB SUMMARY: Receives deliveries and maintains stock of freezers, refrigerators, and dry goods. Maintains cleanliness of all kitchen areas including floors, prep areas, garbage cans, and walk-in coolers. Assists culinary staff by delivering food orders and supplies as requested. Assists kitchen utility and other restaurant staff as needed. This position reports to the Executive Chef.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Clean kitchen area throughout the day, including sweeping, mopping, and taking out trash.
  2. Empty, clean, and refill all sanitizing buckets according to company procedure.
  3. Keep all trash cans double-lined and in sanitary condition.
  4. Record temperatures of all refrigeration equipment and report problems as needed to kitchen management.
  5. Deliver food orders and cooking supplies from storage to kitchen as requested.
  6. Assist Kitchen Stewart with stocking and receiving deliveries.
  7. Assist chefs, line cooks, and kitchen utility staff as necessary.
  8. Perform such other related duties as directed or required.

SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:

  1. Partial High School; High School Diploma/G.E.D. equivalent preferred.
  2. ServSafe or Washington Food Handlers certification required.
  3. Strong sanitation habits.
  4. Ability to recognize when a problem has occurred and report it to management.
  5. Actively looks for ways to assist coworkers.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly frequent movements from place to place within the unit.
  2. Bend, lift, carry, reach/extend arms and hands above shoulder height frequently, or otherwise move in a constantly changing environment.
  3. Lifting, carrying, and pushing up to 25 lbs. regularly, 30-35 lbs. frequently, and up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
  4. Ability to stand for extended periods in a wet environment and to climb steps regularly carrying heavy loads.
  5. Withstanding temperature extremes in indoor and outdoor environments.
  6. Speech recognition and clarity, including the ability to understand the speech of customers and co-workers and the ability to speak clearly so that you can be understood by customers and co-workers in English.
  7. Reading and writing work-related documents in English.
  8. Constantly communicates and receives verbal communication with other employees in a fast-paced environment.
  9. Physical presence at the job site is essential to perform job duties.

EQUIPMENT USED:

  1. Standard commercial automatic dishwashing equipment.
  2. Cleaning Supplies (including detergents, chemicals, mops, brooms, scourers, hand towels, etc.).
  3. Required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) used: gloves, goggles.

Housing Available:

This position is eligible for employee housing with a shared room.
