Job Description

The Associate Collections Representative is responsible for insurance premium collections. Positions in this function contact customers to determine reason for payment delinquency, negotiate and advise on collection of overdue bills and take appropriate action to recover overdue payments. Handling of unresolved inquiries / issues, and responsible for developing, implementing, maintaining and managing organization policies on collection practices. May work with outside legal counsel and / or outside agencies in more complex collection cases.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Follow assigned payer (Contracted / Government) guidelines when processing an appeal, reopening or written inquiry
  • Keep up with assigned (Contracted / Government) payer and changes
  • Properly document accounts
  • Review and recommend write off (adjustments) of accounts
  • Issue refunds with appropriate documentation
  • Maintain Issue log
  • Responsible for reporting problems and error to management in an effective and efficient manner
  • Attend and participates in departmental staff meetings
  • Maintain productivity standards as set by management
  • Maintain quality standards as set by management
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma / GED or higher
  • 2+ years of experience with call center customer service and / or office setting experience using the computer and phone as primary instruments of communication
  • PC skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word (creating and editing documents), Excel (creating and editing spreadsheets) and Outlook (email, calendar)
  • Experience communicating with healthcare insurance companies / payers
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Background in a medical / healthcare setting
  • Healthcare collections experience
  • Knowledge of third party payers process
Soft Skills:
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Good organizational skills
  • Strong analytical and trouble - shooting skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work overtime as needed, based on department needs
