The Certified Public Accountant assists in guiding financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and operational procedures within the department. The Certified Public Accountant supports the preparation of budgets by collecting data, analyzing information, and making recommendations to the Controller. The Certified Public Accountant is responsible for the organizations financial statements, general ledger, cost accounting, accounts payable and receivable, and tax and legal requirements. The Certified Public Accountant oversees staff activities to achieve departmental and organizational objectives.
STATEMENT OF ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES Exercises administrative control and direction over financial reporting, grants oversight, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and revenue collection. Participates and collaborates with other City divisions and departments to provide input, advice, and technical assistance regarding accounting issues as they relate to the development of programs and projects. Is responsible for the completion of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR), which includes a significant amount of account analysis at year-end including preparation and review of audit schedules and implementation of new accounting principles as required by the Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB). Develops innovations to more effectively manage financial operations. Oversees the daily activities of staff. Trains and coaches staff members.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES Minimum Requirements Bachelor degree in accounting, finance, economics, business administration, public administration or related and four years of responsible financial management experience including responsibility for financial reporting required. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required. Masters degree in business administration or public administration and experience working for or with organizations in the public sector preferred. Must possess a valid drivers license.
