Description of Work

This position is currently located within the Department of Public Safety but will transfer to the Department of Adult Correction when it is established on January 1st, 2023.

Please Note: This classification is currently pending modifications, requiring State HR Commission approval, in order to designate it as a Certified position. We anticipate these changes will be completed in December 2022, therefore, applicants must meet all requirements for an NC Probationary Certification, in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission within one year of employment. These requirements include the following:

Necessary Special Qualifications: Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

NOTE: Upon successful completion of Certification training, up to $5000 will be added to the annual base salary, effective the 1st day of the month following successful (training) completion.

This Correction Enterprise Supervisor I will serve as a Laundry Production Supervisor at the Correction Enterprises Craggy Laundry Facility located near the Asheville Correctional Institution in Asheville, NC ( Buncombe County).

The Correction Enterprise Supervisor I is responsible for training inmates in the safe, proper, and most efficient operation of equipment and practices utilized in a laundry production environment, while ensuring quality and quantity standards in accordance with applicable laws, polices and procedures.

This employee will organize and direct work assignments of inmates. Responsibilities include supervision of laundry production including receiving, sorting soiled linens, weighing, washing, Drying, ironing, folding, and visual inspection of finished/packaged products.

The Correction Enterprise Supervisor I provides inmates with orientation/training of plant procedures and safety training. Training includes proper use of machinery, safety/proper handling of laundry, infection control, laundry chemicals, and maintaining good housekeeping practices.

This position is also responsible for reporting daily inmate time records.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) withState Benefits. The work schedule is four 10 hour days per week.

The salary grade for this position is NC05. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:

* Experience in a commercial/industrial laundry facility and/orhospital laundry facility.
* Knowledge of industrial/commercial laundry equipment.

Management Preferences

* Possession of a current Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
* The ability to supervise/manage and/or train employees in a production- based environment.
* Experience working with inmate labor.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Must be at least 20 years of age and a citizen of the United States.

* Must be eligible for certification by the NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission. Click HERE for specific certification requirements.
* Must possess a valid driver's license.
* Applicants with military experience must submit an unaltered copy of the DD-214, Report of Separation (long form) along with their application. Applicants seeking any Veteran's Preference must attach a DD-214. Applicants in the National Guard must also submit Form NGB-23A.
* Pass Psychological testing as required by NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.
* Pass Physical Examination as required by NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.
* Pass Drug Screening as required by NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.
* "Attend and successfully complete (6) weeks of Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT) at a Training Facility. Employees shall be scheduled for BCOT during their 2nd week of employment.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and a minimum of one year of related industry/service experience; or an equivalent combination of training and directly related experience.
