Summary:


The incumbent will engineer concepts designs for new high-power laser diode products. She/he will design fixtures and test setups for development and production. The individual will interact with other departments/functions to keep all key stakeholders involved and up to date. Responsible to design and build up test-setups if necessary, calculate and simulate designs to prove long term stability.


Principle Duties & Responsibilities:

The statements below are intended to describe the general nature and level of work in this position. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities. The position may require that employees perform other duties as assigned.


  • Coordinate development of actual, old and new products and other critical parts with vendors and internally

  • Perform stress, thermal and current analysis, engineering calculations and design according to specifications and cost targets

  • Work with other TRUMPF departments including other TRUMPF subsidiaries during design process for manufacturability, reliability and cost-effectiveness

  • Support production departments and development departments on mechanical design related issues

  • Document meetings, agreements, delivery schedules and time lines, find alternative vendors help evaluating risks

  • Establish overviews of critical parts and their availability, particularly coolers

  • Monitor quality determining dimensions and properties

  • Come up with ways of how to check and monitor quality over time

  • Work with the quality department to handle rejected parts

  • Visit vendors to adjust and learn about their products and production methods

  • The individual will be involved in vendor evaluation, buying strategies and technical negotiations. Also a involvement in production technology of vendors is required to understand the vendors challenges

  • Assist in project planning and execution

  • Review product documentation for accuracy including documentation for customer use



Qualifications:

  • BS or higher degree in related field (Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Electrical, etc).
  • Experience with drawings, documentation and ISO/DIN Standards
  • Preferably experience in opto-mechanics and fine-mechanics
  • Experience general in tooling, milling, turning, drilling etc.
  • Good communication and team work skills; capability to own tasks in a matrix organization and across functional borders
  • Ability to focus on task, good soft skills
  • Good computer skills (Solid Works, Solid Works Simulation, MS Office, SAP)
