Job Description

Ameriprise Financial's Corporate Risk Management team is hiring a Director of Risk Management! This individual will lead the risk management function supporting Lionstone Investments, Ameriprise's US-based real estate investment business. The successful candidate will preferably be located in Houston, TX or Minneapolis, MN.

Responsible for mitigating risk of real estate investment property funds from an operational, financial and regulatory perspective. Effectively identify & quantify the level of risk for the investment properties, implement risk mitigation to reduce risks and optimize risk transfer solutions in order to protect the long-term profitability and financial success of the investors. Create and present results and recommendations to internal and external audiences at all levels within the firm.

Preferred Qualifications

* Extensive risk financing experience procuring commercial insurance including alternative transfer solutions (i.e. captive insurance company)
* ARM, CPCU or other industry designations
* Financial/analytical reporting skills, including proficiency using a Risk Management Information System such as Riskonnect
* Ability to coordinate numerous internal & external parties and facilitate functional discussions under pressure

Responsibilities

* Lead the property/casualty insurance programs including developing program design, coverage specifications, claims procedures and metric reporting for program results
* Lead multiple insurance carrier and broker relationships for continued success during renewal process and throughout policy periods
* Oversee annual submissions to brokers & underwriters for insurance renewals and represent organization during discussions with markets
* Develop working relationships with numerous internal business partners to continue managing exposure additions/deletions for the funds and be seen as a subject matter expert for insurance related topics under management
* Actively manage all on-going claim and loss activity to limit the funds exposure and minimize impacts to risk transfer programs. Also develop/assign loss control initiatives to mitigate future exposure
* Provide leadership for contract review process as relates to the insurance and indemnity sections. Includes vendor contracts, institutional client agreements, tenant contracts, etc.
* Oversee building engineering visits and manage recommendations, ensure safety audits are completed for all locations, respond to regulatory inquiries and environmental evaluations, and implement loss control initiatives

Required Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree (Financial/Quantitative field)
* 7+ years of experience
* Broad understanding of risk management principles and techniques specifically with real estate, complex property placements or financial services industry
* Proven risk management, leadership, and relationship skills. Ability to influence and collaborate across business lines to achieve results.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong technical skills including Microsoft Office.
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to present to all levels of management including Executive leadership.
* Demonstrated ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines
* Thinks strategically, creatively and drives innovation with a focus on continuous improvement
