Beth Israel Lahey Health seeks an accomplished executive to serve as its inaugural AVP, Nursing Informatics Officer (NIO). This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the nation's most innovative academic medical centers and a growing health system to develop the vision and strategy for health system-wide nursing informatics. Under the direction of the Chief Health Informatics Officer (CHIO), the Informatics team supports and enhances connections between clinical stakeholders, business operations, Information Systems, the Epic Application Teams, and Epic (Wisconsin). All informaticians will adhere to a vision of leveraging technology and data to deliver knowledge in the right way, at the right time, to the right caregiver, within the clinical workflow to enable safe, high quality, and efficient patient care, and will work to optimize both clinician and provider experience in their interactions with the EHR.

The AVP,NIO will provide leadership for nursing informatics with a primary focus on improving nursing practice, quality, wellness, and equity. Reporting to the Chief Health Information Officer, the AVP,NIO functions as a key member of the senior executive team, contributing to the overall strategy for nursing informatics for the system. The AVP,NIO leads nursing and many ancillary care providers in the design and optimization of the electronic health record (EHR) as well as other applicable clinical systems to achieve maximal patient safety, quality of care, and operational efficiency. Serve as a catalyst for the transformation of nursing and ancillary care processes, policies, and procedures, as well as outcomes measures from site-specific to systemwide. In collaboration with the full Informatics team, champions the strategy, adoption, optimization, and new development of Information Technology at BILH. The ideal candidate will be a nursing informatics executive or director with a proven track record of successfully building and leading nursing informatics in a complex health system, preferably at an academic medical center. This role requires an experienced leader and influencer with the ability to be transparent and highly collaborative in managing and leading change. The AVP NIO should bring a passion for healthcare, nursing, and technology, along with a drive to continue making improvements in all forms of patient care.

Job Description:

The AVP, NIO will participate in and support the following activities:

1. Establish the vision, direction, strategy, and culture for nursing informatics in support of the BILH vision and mission.

2. Develop a system-wide nursing informatics organization to support both enterprise and site nursing informatics team operations Develop and execute informatics strategies that promote the efficient, effective, safe, and evidenced-based use of information technology in health care.

3. Provide nursing leadership and be the liaison for nursing, ancillary, operations and technical staff on informatics and information technology programs and initiatives. 4. Lead and mentor multi-disciplinary teams in development of systems and processes that create a culture of optimal service quality and patient- plus family-centered health and wellness, resulting in a world class clinician/patient experience.

5. Collaborate on strategic planning and prioritization for enterprise-wide informatics projects and an enterprise-wide EHR.

6. Support the CHIO and act as his/her representative as the primary nursing champion for all major clinical information technology projects and initiatives.

7. Provide subject matter expertise to inform EHR design, development, and maintenance, translating clinical needs/issues into EHR build and IT optimization opportunities.

8. Convene, lead, and coordinate groups of subject matter experts as needed and assigned to support clinical content/build development, coordination, maintenance and archiving for BILH.

9. Coordinate with team members to ensure that EHR build/content meets functional, workflow and process requirements, and to prevent redundancy and/or conflict across clinical domains and user groups.

10. Collaborate with the full BILH informatics team, site clinical and operational leads, clinical site champions, and site informatics teams, BILH Epic application teams, and Epic (Wisconsin) Identify and/or evaluate technologies that enable more effective/efficient clinical workflows and contribute to improvement in clinical outcomes.

11. Stay up to date with trends and developments in Informatics and Health Information Technology to inform decisions at BILH. Identify and engage in healthcare industry partnerships enabling innovation, research, and access to emerging technology.

12. Serve on IT planning and policymaking committees; drives the development of enterprise technology

standards, governance processes and performance metrics to ensure delivery of value to the enterprise.

BSN, RN

Bachelor's degree in nursing required

Master's degree in Nursing Informatics, Healthcare or Business Administration or related field preferred

Registered nurse - state licensure required

3-5 years of active clinical practice and additional 3-5 years' experience in health information technology including clinical informatics experience in a hospital/health care system. Substantial prior Epic experience is required.

Strong communication skills. Thorough knowledge of EHRs and other clinical systems in healthcare settings. Prior Epic certification desired (training required upon hire if not previously completed)

Highly respected, trustworthy, approachable and ability to collaborate successfully with various levels of staff and professionals. Aptitude to successfully drive change and manage resistance. Thorough knowledge of EHR and other clinical systems in healthcare settings. Deep understanding of clinical workflows within the various clinical settings.
