Want to make a impact in your community? Join our fleet team and perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs on all vehicles, trucks, and equipment in the Fire/EMS and Sarasota County fleet.

Job Description:

  • Perform diagnostic tests to identify and rebuild/repair malfunctions on all diesel, gasoline and electric equipment.

  • Make repairs to include overhaul of major and minor sub-systems.

  • Diagnose hydraulic malfunctions, engines, fire pumps, foam systems, cylinders and control valves.

  • Perform repairs on everything from chain saws to rescues, fire trucks, and EMS equipment.

  • Troubleshoot and repair pumps, actuators, transmissions, compressors, pneumatic and electric controls and components.

  • May weld and cut parts using welding equipment and cutting torches.

  • Perform fire pump diagnostics, repairs, and pump tests. Maintains and repairs vehicle air-conditioning units.

  • Perform diagnostic tests and repair/overhaul complete brake and steering systems.

  • Perform diagnostic test and repairs on emission control systems.

  • Perform accurate documentation on repair work orders.

  • Ensure a SAFE work environment, identifies/correct safety infractions, walks and talks safety. Wears PPE as required, performs job risk assessments.

  • Perform emergency road services to equipment outside the garage.

Work Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Monday – Friday. On-Call Required.

About You

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or its equivalent.

  • Two (2) years of mechanical experience in automotive or heavy vehicle/equipment repair.

  • Valid Florida Class "B" Commercial Driver’s License with a Tanker endorsement within six (6) months from date of hire.

  • Ability to obtain Hazmat upon request.

  • Individuals selected for this position will be required to furnish their own tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in basic welding.

  • Completed/maintains a minimum of two (2) ASE certifications (ASE or EVT certifications).

Physical Demands: Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Individual must regularly bend, stretch, use arms, back and legs to perform job task requirements required to accomplish position duties.

Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.

About Everything Else

Pay: $19.71 (Step 4) - $21.55 (Step 7)

After completing your 6-month probationary period, you will automatically receive an extra $2.00/hour as a shop incentive, bringing your hourly pay range to $21.71 - $23.55!

*** You can earn an additional $0.20 cents per hour for each ASE approved certification up to $8.00 more per hour. This can increase the maximum hourly rate to $29.55***

Potential earnings of $31.55/hour for Step 7 + $2.00/hour Shop Incentive + $8.00/hour ASE Additives
