Performs a wide variety of activities which may include both direct patient care activities for the Structural Heart Program patients of all ages, as well as business office functions. Patient care is provided under the direct supervision of an MD, mid-level provider or RN.
High school diploma or GED required.
One of the following required:
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA);
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN); or
Minimum of two (2) years of relevant work experience performing the essential responsibilities of the medical assistant or similar role.
Valid CPR Certification required.
Prior computer experience required.
Previous clinical experience required
Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills.
Prior exposure coordinating and scheduling of ancillary testing in an office or clinic setting.
Assists healthcare providers and structural heart coordinators with the patient care process in person, and over the telephone. Practices within scope and current standards of care.
Provides direct patient care that may include working with patients of all ages, in person and over the phone, completing tasks involving the use of assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation skills. All patient care is provided under the direct supervision of an MD, mid-level provider or RN.
Rooms patients from Lobby to Clinic Rooms. Performs and documents vital signs (B/P, HR, patient’s weight) and reports deviation from previous readings. Toilets patients.
Maintains safety and security of patient/family/self/others, observing safety precautions and promoting a sense of security and well-being. Tasks may include rounding on patients in Clinic room and lobby. Transporting patients to vehicle. Follows standard precautions and always washing hands between patients. Reports equipment malfunctions. Cleans fluid spills, Uses proper body mechanics in moving, transferring and transporting patients. Assures patient privacy/rights/confidentiality. Recognizes and reports patient concerns.
Documents according to scope and current standard of care. Accountable for achieving quality standards.
Assists in various aspects of patient flow process including, but not limited to performing scheduling, billing, office duties, securing/stocking necessary supplies, preparing exam room and patient for examination, assisting the provider with the exam or procedure, and cleaning/disinfecting exam/treatment area after use.
Responsible for several tasks related to the paper flow through office. This aspect may include, but is not limited to, working with incoming mail and faxed correspondence, assisting in scanning correspondence and paper medical records and conducting quality assurance.
Assists with various aspects of diagnostic testing including obtaining and/or preparing lab specimens, labeling/recording, and communicating results. May perform EKG’s/rhythm strips, spirometry, pulse oximetry, blood glucose monitoring, as well as other testing outlined by the provider. Documents results and reports abnormal findings.
Performs Five Meter Walk Tests (5MWT) or exercise evaluations to determine patient’s current level of fitness and set exercise goals for patients.
Complies with all clinic policies and procedures including, but not limited to blood borne pathogens, chemical safety, laboratory, administrative, and corporate compliance. Applies the Minimum Necessary Standard when accessing protected health information.
Assists in the clinic financial performance in ways which may include: careful use of resources including supplies, equipment, and time; noting when contact or insurance information does not appear current or correct; supports efforts to reduce costs. Assist in obtaining appropriate insurance referrals and pre-certifications.
Responsible for Customer satisfaction. Interacts with patients/visitors/family in a courteous and respectful manner. Fully explains procedures to patients /families prior to performing.
Demonstrates support for and participates in accomplishing team goals and objectives. Cooperates with all members of the healthcare team. Enthusiastically supports and participates in planned changes. Adheres to MHS Behavioral Standards.
Performs other related work as required or requested.
