As part of the Mountain West IT PMO team, your project management skills and attention to detail will be used across a spectrum of project management activities. Your role will involve a variety of activities that will require skills such as project management, business analysis, data analysis, project quality, and departmental performance monitoring. You may also be asked to apply different project management methodologies such as Agile, Waterfall, or Hybrid. You will provide project management and business analysis for a variety of medium to large projects – with activities and artifacts including: project scoping, project schedule, IRAADs, status reports, meeting scheduling, agendas & minutes, quality tracking, issue or conflict resolution, and stakeholder management. You will create and document performance to quality measures ensuring that our projects are following repeatable, reliable processes and methods. Additionally, the person in this role will support and lead End-to-End and User Acceptance Testing planning, configuration, and execution as needed.

You’ll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Project execution working with teams from various functional areas. Experience in Healthcare operations preferred
  • Coordinate directly internal Optum stakeholders, initiative leadership, and vendors to manage projects including developing on-going communications, presentations and reporting on project performance
  • Create deliverables related to project adherence to schedule, deliverables, risks, and expected results. Plan and deliver well-structured oral and written communications, highlighting strategic opportunities
  • Engage with IT PMO in the development of best practices, refinement of PMO tools and PMO performance metrics
  • Ensure alignment and understanding of program / project scope and objectives with the organization's strategic objectives, in consultation with applicable stakeholders
  • Raise awareness of any misalignment or misunderstanding of project scope and objectives with applicable stakeholders
  • Ensure that all impacted areas are identified, and that appropriate resources are engaged to participate in the scope definition process
  • Ensure that project scope, requirements and approvals comply with existing governance guidelines and methodology
  • Ensure that all project dependencies / linkages are identified (e.g., cross-functional area dependencies, implementation timelines, value proposition overlap areas, etc.)
  • Apply consultative thinking and mindset to advise the client and internal stakeholders
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned
  • Ability to deliver high value and quality results in tight time windows

  • Ability to build relationships with internal stakeholders at various levels (executives, senior-level BAL and PDL roles, client executives, client admin and PMO staff, internal project managers, etc.)
  • Note: Most teams and stakeholders that new hire will be working with are located in Pacific and Mountain time
  • This role is Remote Nationwide: role requires up to 10% occasional travel as deemed necessary

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Health Care Administration, Business Administration or a related field OR 5+ years of equivalent project management experience
  • 2+ years of experience in managing highly complex cross-functional projects or due diligence efforts with significant leadership/executive-level exposure
  • 2+ years of experience in Healthcare Technology industry or in another highly regulated industry (such as the banking or insurance industry)
  • Intermediate level proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint
  • Ability to travel up to 10%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications: Project Management Professional (PMP)®, or Scrum Master Certification
  • Experience with Allscripts or another large electronic health record system

Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada or New York City Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $82,100 to $146,900. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada / New York City residents is $90,500 to $161,600. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
