Orthopedic PA
Overview
Provides assistance to family practice and orthopedic physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of patients as directed and supervised in accordance with all Tribal, state, federal and licensing standards and guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Secures health and developmental history from patient or parent; records findings, assessment/evaluation of condition in medical records
- Performs complete physical examination of patient and present pertinent data to physician
- Collects and assists interpret reports from diagnostic and laboratory tests, radiographic procedures and clinical studies
- Determines tentative diagnosis, orders tests and recommends medication prescription to physician
- Provides counsel to patient and family on health and disease
- Performs various therapeutic and minor surgical procedures including, but not limited to: sutures minor wounds, applies and removes casts
- Provides follow up care to patients; assists in referral to various internal and external facilities
- Advises patients concerning diet, hygiene, normal growth and development and methods for prevention of disease
- Compiles and records detailed narrative case evaluations
- Provides statistical summaries of services provided
- Maintains knowledge and proficiency in medical practices through continuing education, staff meetings and workshop participation
- Participates in departmental orientation, on the job training and quality assurance programs/initiatives
- Participates in a variety of department and hospital educational programs to maintain current skills and competency levels; identifies and discusses performance or training needs with Supervisor
Qualifications
- Graduation from an Accredited Physician Assistant Program
- Minimum 1 year experience in Orthopedics
- Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant by the Arizona State Board of Medical Examiners
- Current and valid State of Arizona drivers license
