Seeking a naval architect / engineer experienced with performing structural analyses including finite element analyses. Experience using FEMAP and NXNastran is preferred, but experience with other software (e.g., ABAQUS, NEi / Autodesk Nastran, PATRAN, etc.) will be considered. He or she must be able to review engineering drawings; plan analyses to meet project goals; construct finite element models; interpret real world loading and translate to finite element loads; apply appropriate constraints to the model; perform analyses; troubleshoot and correct issues; and document analysis results. Knowledge of US Navy ships and ability to read US Navy or commercial ship drawings desired. Experience with reading drawings in AutoCAD and Inventor is required; ability to construct AutoCAD drawings and 3D models in Inventor desired. Tasking may also include structural calculations by hand (e.g. using Roark’s formulae, bolt failure, etc.), varied engineering analyses, prototype component / system design, 3D modeling, drawing development / review / modification.
Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or similar with five or more years of experience. Significant coursework or internships involving finite element analysis with hands-on experience with FEMAP may be substituted for experience. Travel to perform ship checks, as necessary, will be required (up to 25%).
One must have good written communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, analytical, mathematical, and organizational skills. Ability to follow directions is a must. Applicants must be able to work well alone and as part of a team. A Security Clearance or the ability to obtain one will be required. U.S. Citizenship required.
