Engineering Technician

General Description: The Laboratory Technician II supports the development of new products and sustainment of existing products by; testing prototypes and current products, recording test results, constructing engineering prototypes and supporting production for product start-up or daily operation as needed. The position requires a high level of accuracy, good communication, and the ability to handle multiple simultaneous activities.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Construct fixtures, test set ups, prototypes and other items needed to support product development using lathes, mills, brake presses, plasma cutting and other metal bending and hand forming tools.
  • Works independently with product testing, set up, running and accurately records test data as requested by Engineering.
  • Writes testing protocols independently or with guidance from engineering.
  • Assure lab test equipment is properly calibrated.
  • Maintain lab and fabrication area organization and cleanliness.
  • Assist Engineers in various capacities including process development and other projects as needed.
  • Generates laser and turret programs as needed
  • Supports production dealing with laser/turret programs as needed
  • Other duties as assigned.

    Skills and Specifications: MS Office and general computer skills required. Strong communication and team skills. Working knowledge of measurement tools- such as micrometer, calipers and pie tapes. Understanding of electrical wiring and PCB soldering methods. Knowledge of welding methods including spot welding, Mig and Tig preferred. Well organized. Knowledge of fabrication methods including brake press, shear, drilling, turret, laser, riveter, tox, crimper, etc… is required. Understanding of computer operated data acquisition devices.
