Assistant Program Director - Clinical Education, PA Studies
Purpose
The Assistant Program Director of Clinical Education for PA Studies in the Division of PA Studies, Department of Medicine will serve as a partner in the development and implementation of the School of Medicine's PA graduate degree program under the supervision of the Program Director & Division Chief of PA Studies.
This 1.0 FTE role will primarily focus on program development and administration along with participation in the clinical and education missions. Expected effort is 70% toward program development and administration and 30% toward clinical and/or research. Teaching effort is expected to commence following student matriculation and according to program needs.
Works closely with program leaders to ensure alignment with ARC-PA accreditation standards. Advocates for the PA program and profession and facilitates program and curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation. Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build trust, foster relationships, apply innovative ideas, and establish effective teams in a highly matrixed and complex environment. Supports development of program influence across MCW's missions of patient care, education, research, and community engagement.
Primary Functions
- As a principal faculty and leader of the program, is responsible for and actively participates in processes outlined by ARC-PA standards including:
- Developing, reviewing, and revising the program's mission statement, goals, and competencies
- Selecting applicants for admission to the program
- Instructing students and evaluating student performance
- Providing academic counseling to students and assuring availability of remedial instruction
- Designing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating the curriculum
- Evaluating the program
- Oversees the development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of the clinical curricula in compliance with all ARC-PA, PAEA, regional accreditation, and organizational standards.
- Provides for the continuous review and updating of all clinical course materials and learning objectives.
- Teaches in courses with which he/she/they hold demonstrated competence and expertise.
- Develops and maintains clinical rotation sites adequate for students' clinically supervised training.
- Regularly visits clinical rotation sites to ensure adequacy of the site for clinical training.
- Provides guidance, training, and ongoing communication as needed for clinical preceptors.
- Provides for ongoing clinical preceptor development.
- Evaluates quality of instruction provided at clinical sites.
- Develops, revises, updates, and maintains instruments for student and faculty course evaluations.
- Reviews all clinical assessments of students by preceptors and student reports of clinical sites.
- Provides remedial instruction for students with sub-standard performance, as needed.
- Responsible for the coordination and scheduling of all clinical mentoring experiences, clinical rotations, and end-of-rotation assessments.
- Maintains and coordinates the clinical rotation schedule with clinical staff.
- Assists in the preparation of administrative reports as requested and assigned by the Program Director.
- Serves on program and/or organizational committees as assigned by Program Director, including those related to curriculum, student admissions and progress/promotion
- Fosters a positive student experience for the duration of the program.
- Participates in recruitment of a diverse group of faculty and students.
- Ensures proper diversity and inclusion practices are in place across all aspects of the program.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:
Specifications
Minimum Required Education: Bachelor's or Master's level PA education. Master's degree in any field from a regionally accredited college or university required (may be in a field other than PA if PA education was completed at the undergraduate level).
Preferred Education: Doctoral degree (PhD, EdD, DrPH, etc.) preferred from a regionally accredited college or university.
Preferred Experience: Three or more years as a practicing PA. Academic leadership, research, and/or teaching experience preferred.
Certification: Current NCCPA certification.
Licensure: Currently holds or eligible to obtain an active, unrestricted Physician Assistant license in the State of Wisconsin.
