ROLE SUMMARY

The Business Development Coordinator, Tax, is responsible for the organization and successful execution of a variety of business development and marketing initiatives in support of practices and teams within the Tax Area. The incumbent will keep pitch materials current and prepare attorneys for pitch meetings and presentations, research targets, assist with RFP responses, and monitor business development budgets. Activities will entail a high level of attorney contact and visibility. The coordinator and the senior manager operate as a team.

The ideal candidate has law firm experience, is detail oriented, and has excellent communication skills, curiosity, and persistence. The ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment is essential, as is the ability to multi-task and prioritize. Strong oral and written communication skills are critical (spelling, grammar, and writing skills). Thorough knowledge of legal marketing terms and concepts are required, familiarity with tax law a strong plus. Open to considering applicants for a senior coordinator role based on experience.  This position is eligible for remote flexibility.  Details will be discussed during the interview process. 



Essential Duties

The Business Development Coordinator, Tax has responsibility for the following activities:  

  • Support the business development and marketing activities for the Tax Areas four tax practice groups: 1) federal and international tax, 1) state and local tax, 3) benefits, executive compensation and ERISA litigation, and 4) wealth planning and tax-exempt organizations.
  • Prepare marketing materials using Qorus Breeze software. Identify and determine appropriate materials for each request. Gather and revise existing documents to meet objectives. Oversee assembly of drafts and secure required edits and approvals. Ensure on-time completion and delivery of high-quality materials.
  • Work with attorneys to develop customized materials for prospect and client presentations; respond to requests and initiate projects. May involve performing basic industry, prospect, firm experience, and competitor research. Includes drafting, editing, or proofreading materials, recommending changes, and working with other business development staff to execute projects in a timely and collegial manner.
  • Assist with RFP responses by working with attorneys to draft, revise, and organize content; formatting, editing, and submitting by deadline.
  • Assist with directory, award, and ranking submissions, including Chambers.
  • Prepare attorneys nominations for potential accolades.
  • Capture and track credentialing activities.
  • Capture and track matters and experiences in Foundation, the firm's experience database.
  • Assist with attorney onboarding process, including drafting biographies and orientation materials.
  • Manage tax-related firm sponsorships such as TEI and COST.
  • Monitor and track tax practice group budgets.
  • Assist with planning and coordination of internal and external events and webinars, sometimes in concert with BD event team members, as assigned.
  • Work with practice group leaders in developing agendas and business development portions of practice group meetings and retreats.
  • Pull lists such as RSVPs or who knows who information from the InterAction software system. Work as part of a team with other business development professionals in all Alston & Bird offices.
  • Assist in implementing practice group public relations plans.
  • Perform other marketing and business development related responsibilities and projects as necessary.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (writing skills, proofreading, spelling, grammar).
  • Ability to set priorities and make appropriate judgments.
  • Capacity to work under pressure.
  • Knowledge of sales and marketing principles, concepts, and practical applications as well as legal concepts, especially taxation.
  • Professional presence and ability to effectively interact with busy lawyers.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Three-plus (3+) years of professional services marketing is required, law firm marketing experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including styles in MS Word.
  • Experience with law firm-specific software including InterAction or other CRM, Aderant; Breeze a plus.
  • Proficiency in online research and internet resources.
  • Bachelors degree required, preferably in marketing, communications, or the humanities.
