Engineering Documentation Specialist (Hybrid Schedule)

IDEAL INDUSTRIES, INC. Sycamore, IL Full-Time

As an engineering documentation coordinator, your responsibilities include maintaining and documenting engineering processes, executing change notices for technical drawings and 3D models, and assisting in introduction of new products to the company. Other duties include data entry for Bills of Materials due to engineering changes, providing guidance on process improvements for system standardization and ensuring the accuracy of specifications in product release documents. In this position you will work with cross-functional teams on projects that will be developed from concept through manufacturing. The right candidate will understand the product development lifecycle and be familiar with engineering specifications.

  • Utilize the current NAV manufacturing planning system to create new part numbers, populate item data fields, edit Bills of Material, update engineering text & engineering revision levels.

  • Compose and disseminate Engineering Change Notices, and New Product Release Notices.

  • Populate the Item Master Data Sheet and update other departs in the corporation.

  • Annotate/Edit Solidworks 2D drawings and create PDF files for manufacturing and customer service personnel to view.

  • Edit/change minor parameters in Solidworks 3D models as needed.

  • Maintain archived folders and appropriate records for completed ECNs.

  • Maintain the ISO9000 based controls in proper maintenance of all engineering documents.

  • Associates Degree in Computer Aided Design, Engineering Technology, or related field

  • 1-3 years of related experience 2D and 3D modeling in Solidworks or other CAD software

  • Capable of transferring 3D CAD data into 2D dimensional drawings

  • Experience in cross-functional communication with manufacturing, design, and customer service personnel

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

  • Familiarity with GD&T as it applies to 2D drawings and dimensioning parameters

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Familiarity with basic mechanical part design and components in CAD

  • Must be able to manipulate small plastic component models and large complex assemblies

  • Capable of running meetings to update departments on changes in engineering documentation to include operations, marketing, customer service, and sales

  • Basic knowledge of a phase-gate new product development processes

  • Capable of making decisions and meeting deadlines for critical engineering changes and system updates.

  • Detail-oriented when data inputs are made in the NAV system

  • Maintain a high level of integrity and responsibility with data management

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with ISO documentation and regulatory agencies such as UL, CSA, and IEC

  • Exposure to other MRP systems and data storage systems.
