MITRE is seeking a Lead Systems Engineer to focus on providing System Engineering expertise to Federal Government sponsors. MITRE is looking for someone to join a team with diverse skillsets and help enhance these skillsets and contribute to the growth of our Systems Engineering capabilities and offerings.

MITRE is looking for someone with deep skills in two or more Systems Engineering areas, who understands how to apply them to the full project life cycle. This includes pre-acquisition research and development (R&D) activities as well as the acquisition life-cycle. We are looking for candidates who understand how to define and analyze challenging sponsor challenges and apply processes, approaches, and appropriate toolsets to solving them. The Lead Systems Engineer will provide technical expertise and strategic leadership for technology assessments, the design and development of complex systems and enterprise solutions, the definition of architectures, requirements, and conceptual designs, and verification and validation. He/she must be able to guide sponsors through an SE or R&D life-cycles and integrate appropriately with Risk Management, Program Management, and Change Management infrastructure and operations.

The position is based in McLean, VA and may require on-site work at Government facilities.

Job Responsibilities:

Provide technical assistance and consulting support for technology assessments and the design, implementation, and integration of enterprise systems and system-of-systems for Federal Government sponsors.

* Contribute to teams with expertise in one or more of the following technologies and practice areas: Systems Engineering, requirements engineering, systems architecture, test and evaluation, system design, system life-cycle management, quality management, design of experiments, and process analysis and improvement.
* Provide technical and/or task or project leadership as needed.
* Be able to interface with technical experts and leaders in Government and MITRE organizations and build trusted relationships.
* Collaborate and participate in activities to ensure knowledge creation/sharing and integration within and across all work programs as appropriate.
* Support MITRE's efforts to develop work programs with new sponsors
* Support internal activities to develop capabilities in Systems Engineering, to potentially include, requirements engineering, test and evaluation, artificial intelligence, data analytics, model-based engineering, system security engineering, technology assessments, and others.
* Promote the advancement and application of model-based engineering, systems-of-systems engineering and systems thinking.

Required Qualifications:

* Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 6 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 3 years' experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
* Broad experience across the Systems Engineering life cycle, including multiple life-cycles, with a minimum of 8 years of related experience
* Depth in at least 2 Systems Engineering areas, with an understanding of the full life cycle
* Secret clearance or eligibility for a Secret Clearance
* Strong written and oral communications skills.
* Strong organizational and time management skills
* Ability to work well in teams and independently
* Ability to work well with sponsors
* Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office, including Work, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Visio

Preferred Qualifications:

* MS in Systems Engineering, Computer Science or Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related Information Technology or Engineering field
* Experience working with one or more Government agencies
* Task/project management or technical lead experience.
* Coaching and mentoring skills
* Ability to engage and cultivate trusted partnership with sponsor and key stakeholders
* Engineering support for proposal evaluations
