General Description:

The Senior Accountant oversees the day to day operation of the accounting department. This involves developing the staff both technically and professionally. The role ensures that the information that is used to create financial statements is accurate and timely. The individual will perform high level analysis on critical areas of the financial statements. The individual is responsible for the timely and accurate close of the monthly financials. The Senior Accountant also acts as an escalation point for their team. A qualified candidate must have strong analytical skills and be able to get to the root cause of issues with moderate guidance, and must be extremely detailed oriented and organized and have a strong understanding of GAAP. The individual also needs to be professional, accountable, and action-oriented.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Analyze financial statements

  • Prepare, review and analyze account/bank reconciliations

  • Prepare journal entries for month end closing process

  • Assist with preparation of financial data for the preliminary and year-end audits

  • Identify inefficiencies and suggest new methods to improve processes

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance

  • 2+ years general ledger experience

  • Strong analytical ability with a focus on detail

  • Ability to work under strict deadlines

  • Ability to hold team member, peers and supervisors accountable

  • Thorough knowledge of business policies and accounting practices

  • Strong leadership skills, communication skills and work ethic

  • Ability to evaluate and balance team and individual workload through effective time management, prioritization and organizational skills

  • Ability to coach, train and develop all team members

  • Ability to assess team performance and identify areas of improvement for the team and its members

  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft a plus and proficient use of Microsoft Office
