The Trauma Program Director is a Registered Nurse (RN) responsible for upholding excellence in the provision of patient care within their assigned department. The Trauma Program Director is responsible for operational, human resources, quality, and financial management of the assigned department. The Trauma Program Director utilizes professional practice as the foundation for leading nursing practice. The Trauma Program Director collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to translate and implement organizational and division priorities into the department’s operations. The Trauma Program Director implements quality and safety initiatives, leads process improvement, and ensures adherence to hospital and clinical standards of performance. The Trauma Program Director ensures a patient care environment that supports a safe, knowledgeable, compassionate, productive, and engaged staff. The Trauma Program Director partners with the interdisciplinary care team to ensure the delivery of safe, quality patient care and compliance with administrative, regulatory, and clinical policies and procedures.
Required- BSN or higher degree in nursing. Master’s degree in nursing or related field, or in process
Preferred- Master’s degree in nursing leadership
•Five years inpatient trauma nursing experience
•Two years related management/leadership experience.
•Trauma Coordinator/Trauma Program Manager experience
•Three years of management experience in the related clinical area of practice
Job Related Knowledge:
•Experience in complex organization environments.
•Ability to effectively manage multiple conflicting priorities.
•Proficient with word processing, computational spreadsheet (e.g., Excel), and presentation software.
Registrations, Certifications and/or Licenses:
•Trauma Nursing Certification – e.g. ATCN, TNCC or CTRN
•Unencumbered Oregon RN license
•Professional certification in nursing leadership-e.g. Nurse Executive/Administrator
•The Trauma Program Director strengthens trauma care to save lives and preserve limbs in a timely, safe and effective manner while enhancing the long-term quality of life, and creates an inspiring and supportive environment and culture that foster high-quality and compassionate care through focus on the patient and employee experience.
•The Trauma Program Director Ensures continuous compliance with all American College of Surgeon and Oregon Health Authority requirements for designation as a Level 1 trauma center.
•The Trauma Program Director represents the Trauma Program on hospital, regional, and state trauma committees.
•The Trauma Program Director oversees a performance improvement process that measures, tracks and continuously improves Trauma Program performance; ensures that new knowledge resulting from research and actions translates into improved outcomes; provides infrastructure and guidance to ensure continuous survey readiness with a focus on metric-driven compliance with standard, loop closure, core measure reporting and data visualization.
•The Trauma Program Director supervises the collecting, coding and validation of data entered into the trauma registry; ensures compliance with reporting requirements, data integrity and confidentiality; confirms data is appropriate and available for research and process improvement activities.
•The Trauma Program Director oversees the development of trauma education, in-services and conferences, both internal and external, for employees and regional providers.
•The Trauma Program Director oversees trauma outreach, collaboration and communication between all referring facilities, and injury prevention activities.
