Performs direct patient care activities within the scope of practical nursing preparation under the direct supervision of an RN. The LPNs practice must be consistent with the established guidelines of practice, the goals of Mercy Health System, the Philosophy of the Sisters of Mercy, the Missouri Nurse Practice Act, the code of Professional and Business Ethics, and the Co-Worker Code of Conduct.
Implements patient care in collaboration with RN and other care givers; collaborates with the assessment of patient/significant other in a timely, consistent, systematic manner and assists with identification of patient problems. Receives delegated assignment from RN and reports back with any changes in patient condition.
Implements the plan of care under the direction of the RN to achieve the identified outcomes; assists with and/or performs interventions; delegates tasks to unlicensed providers according to competencies; Provide care and information based upon physical, psychosocial, cultural, safety and other age-related factors for the adult and geriatric patient
Utilizes Mercy communication tools and methods in care delivery; demonstrates effective and accurate communication; maintains confidentiality; utilizes de-escalation tools; collaborates with care delivery team.
Ensures patient safety; utilizes 5 rights of medication administration; scans all medications; utilizes two patient identifiers. Utilizes safe techniques for patient mobility, performs patient handoffs, and adheres to all safety goals/policies/procedures in the workplace.
Functions within LPN Licensure; change practices within LPN scope of practice as defined by licensure; maintains competency of skills and demonstrates knowledge; maintains hospital property and keeps the hospital environment clean and safe in accordance with policies. Uses current knowledge achieved through educational activities to enhance or improve clinical practice and/or patient care.

Education - Graduate of a State Board of Nursing approved Practical Nursing Program.
Licensure -Current LPN licensure with the Missouri State Board of Nursing or current LPN Missouri temporary work permit.
Other Requirements-Successful completion of an IV Therapy Administration course approved by the Missouri State Board of Nursing.
Certification-Must have a current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider card or complete a course within their probation period.
Other skills, knowledge and requirements -Stand and walk most of the time on duty. Meet unit specific physical demands. Significant amount of bending and stooping, as well as lifting and turning patients with assistance. May be required to work differing schedules, shifts, days of the week, or work frequency according to patient care requirements. High risk exposure to blood and body fluids. Physical demands are attached plus push, pull, and grip up to 50 lbs., pinch up to 15 lbs., kneel, crouch, and crawl minimally. Equipment use is unit specific.
Preferred work experience :Six months LPN work experience
