Organization Summary The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF), established in 1995 and significantly reimagined in 2012, is a leading model for philanthropy and community engagement. With the goal of reaching all of Los Angeles and to be a model for sports teams worldwide, LADF is bigger than baseball. Focusing on education, health care, homelessness, and youth development, LADF has ambitions to be the city's premier charity. LADF has invested more than $40 million in programs and grants to nonprofits, and fundraising has increased by 1,000% since 2012. LADF was awarded ESPN's Sports Humanitarian Team of the Year (2020), Beyond Sport's Sport for Reduced Racial Inequalities Collective Impact Award (2020), and the Aspen Institute Project Play Champion (2020), and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Sports Award (2021). LADF is in the midst of an exciting period of growth and seeks a Chief Program Officer to serve as the third member of the Executive Leadership Team at the foundation, and to lead the program function, including Grantmaking, Youth Programs and LADF Initiatives. Title: Chief Program Officer Reports to: Chief Executive Officer Responsibilities
  • Set the vision and strategy for the program function to be in alignment with the overall organizational strategy, and set priorities and expectations for Grantmaking, Programs and LADF Initiatives.
  • Serve as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, along with the CEO and COO, to provide overall organizational management and leadership and to ensure alignment across the organization.
  • Directly manage three team members in the program function: Director, Programs; Manager, Grants & Initiatives; and, Coordinator, Programs, Grants & Initiatives.
  • Work closely with Program team members to approve program budgets and to support how the budget process supports the overall Program function.
  • Develop new partners to meet growth goals and to better link all areas of LADF programming in Grantmaking, Programs and LADF Initiatives.
  • Serve as the LADF representative with external partners, peers and colleagues in the sports-based youth development sector (e.g. Beyond Sport, ESPN, Center for Healing and Justice through Sport, etc.)
  • Manage major projects with new and existing partners and develop new activities and plans to align with objectives in the strategic plan.
  • Work closely with the Director, Programs and the Manager, Grants & Initiatives to align all program activity for high impact and effective partnership with all grantees.
  • Collaborate with other members of the Program team to share best practices for grant, grantee and partner management to establish a common and consistent approach in the way LADF works with its program partners.
  • Ensure that LADF has the data it needs to effectively evaluate the success and impact of its programs and Initiatives, which includes Grantmaking/LADF Gives; Dodgers RBI, Dodgers Dreamfields, LA Reads, Science of Baseball, College and Career Accelerator, and In This Together.
  • Serve as the final approval for high level needs in the program function. Vet final hiring recommendations with the CEO.
Qualifications and Experience Needed
  • Bachelor's Degree; Advanced degree in a relevant field preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in a relevant field.
  • Demonstrated experience managing a complex program function that includes giving programs/grantmaking as well as partnerships and direct program delivery.
  • Experience in sports-based youth development and/or youth development strongly preferred.
  • Experience navigating the Los Angeles philanthropic and nonprofit community, including relationships with donors, partners, sponsors and/or beneficiary nonprofit organizations and partners.
  • Ability to work in partnership with the CEO and COO to manage relationships collaboratively and to drive cross-functional work within the LADF team.
  • Demonstrated experience managing others, setting priorities and expectations, and keeping the team accountable with a positive and team-oriented style.
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience using data to drive programming efforts and using systems to ensure effective communication, collaboration and accessibility to the cross-functional team that contributes to the success of the programming function.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including strong presentation skills.
  • Strong passion for and commitment to LADF's mission, programs, and values.
  • Ability to work a non-traditional schedule, which includes nights, weekends, and some home games
