This position is responsible for product development and design and implementation of new products. This position will work in an electro-mechanical environment and will be central in the product design, part assembly and detailed part drawings. You will work on prototyping, testing, and assembling production-intent samples. In addition, you will be working with a cross-functional team to ensure that all specifications are met in order to successfully release a product into production.



Key Tasks & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

  • Facilitate and collaborate with technology partners across the globe.
  • Develop concepts and prototypes for new products.
  • Attend team meetings using the product delivery system (stage gate product development) for each major product.
  • Develop test plans for luminaire certification (UL/CSA), validation of new features, and interoperability of new components within the product.
  • Integrate cutting-edge controls technology into luminaires.
  • Manage multiple project timelines while interfacing with cross-functional teams.
  • Manage Phase-In and Phase-Out (PIPO) on high volume product families.
  • Travel to production facility to support pilot and pre-production assembly runs, support lean activities, and seek continuous improvement.
  • Submit test requests and interact with the testing group as necessary.
  • Submit prototyping requests and interact with the model shop for the production of prototypes and assembly of samples.
  • Review functional specifications, project charters, and competitor samples.
  • Interact with manufacturing facilities to resolve part or assembly issues, deviation requests, and bill of material errors.


Skills and Minimum Experience Required

  • Applied experience in project, timeline, and budget management.
  • 5+ years experience working in engineering in lighting or a related field, with preferred knowledge of engineering fundamentals.
  • Applied experience in mechanical design, electronic circuit board design, and electrical wiring practices.
  • Proficient use of 3D/2D CAD, MS Office, etc.
  • Understanding of Lean & Six Sigma methodology and practices.
  • Applied understanding of manufacturing methods such as stamping, drawing, casting, and extruding of metals and plastics.
  • Ability to communicate verbally, in written form, and through sketches and engineering drawings.
  • Works well in cross-functional team environments.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with cross-functional team members.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to excel in a hybrid working environment, working a minimum of 30%-50% of time in an office setting to meet project requirements.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time as needed.
