About This Job

As an Institutional Fixed Income Sales Associate for the Capital Markets Group, you will be responsible for the solicitation of new business opportunities with community banks and other financial institutions within assigned regional territories.  You will utilize a consultative sales approach to introduce investment products and related services to engage with executive management in order to build relationships and grow our market presence. Candidates will spend time working with our senior sales, trading and asset liability management teams to learn the skills necessary to speak with portfolio managers at banks and other institutions.  Upon successful completion of the Sales Associate program, candidates may transition to a fully commissioned sales role.

Essential Functions 

  • Reach out to targeted prospects with the objective to acquire new clients

  • Market fixed income products and related services to reach annual production goals

  • Articulate beliefs about value in the market and match customers needs with available offerings

  • Regularly travel to meet with clients and prospects in person to facility building trusted relationships

  • Become proficient in all fixed income product sets we sell

  • Assist senior sales reps as needed

New Business Development: 80%

Product Knowledge Development: 20%

Knowledge Skills & Abilities Required 

  • Basic knowledge of banking/accounting/finance field

  • Strong time management and self-discipline skills, with ability to appropriately prioritize calling activities and strategies

  • Motivated and organized self-starter with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities 

  • Emotional intelligence, perseverance, strong strategic, analytical, and problem-solving skills

  • A desire to work in a results-oriented, multi-tasking environment

  • Good independent decision-making skills

  • Goal oriented with well-developed persuasive and sales skills

  • Ability to form strong relationships with people from all socioeconomic backgrounds

  • Ability to manage complex relationship sales cycles

  • Inquisitive and agile with excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills 

  • Ability to remain adaptable and resilient to all situations with an optimistic outlook and cast a positive shadow that is aligned with our culture and Core Values 

  • Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license and meet Commerce Bank’s driving record criteria; ongoing employment may be contingent upon meeting all driving requirements 

Education & Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business-related field with a strong emphasis in Finance, Accounting, Entrepreneurship or Economics or equivalent combination of education and experience required 

  • 2-3 years outbound sales experience strongly preferred

  • Exposure to entrepreneurship or prior commissioned sales experience preferred

  • Bloomberg experience is preferred

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel) is required

  • The candidate must obtain a Series 52 registration within 90 days of hire.
