As a Senior Demand Field Service Engineer, you will execute service work with low to medium complexity according to work instructions and in accordance with ABB standard processes, quality standards and safety guidelines. You will be in close cooperation with customers and other ABB teams, acting as the technical point while delivering quality and satisfying customer service.

Reporting to the Field Service Regional Manager, you will be responsible for providing routine maintenance and on site or remote technical support. The position involves approximately 50 percent travel as you will be providing hands on assistance at customer sites.

Your responsibilities

  • Maintain ABB’s suite of distributed control system (DCS) hardware and software. Handle customer questions about the state of the ABB system
  • Handle customer service related issues while fostering the customer relationship and working to solve technical problems on site. Deal directly with and communicate effectively with plant operators, plant management, third party vendors and other ABB personnel in support of service operations
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment applying own technical knowledge and experience to resolve problems.Training on ABB products and services will be provided; however, a basic understanding of computer networks, DCS systems (architecture, project engineering and Human Machine Interface​(HMI)/graphic creation) is required in order for the training to be beneficial
  • Accurately document the work that is performed at a customer facility and/or project staging area. Professionally document work completed on periodic preventive maintenance as well as intermittent corrective maintenance tasks
  • When required, play an active role in various projects such as upgrades, new installations or new functionality for customers. Coordinate work with other groups to ensure meeting commitments
  • Knowledge installing Windows Operating systems onto servers, clients and Thin clients hardware. Be familiar working with virtual machine
  • Assist in planning and coordinating team efforts. Guide less experienced technicians and instruct them in proper and safe operation of equipment. Often work non standard schedules with exposure to varying environmental conditions
  • Be responsible for hands on execution of projects including startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, preventive and unplanned maintenance Measurement and Analytics products including but not limited to flow, pressure, temperature, level meters and continuous water/gas analyzers. Specific knowledge of mass flowmeters (that is Coriolis and Thermal mass) in a plus
  • Ability to provide remote technical support to Customers and keep track of issues until final resolution

Your background

  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering or a High School Diploma with minimum 5 years of engineering / field experience
  • Minimum 2 years of field engineering experience
  • Technical skills in startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, preventive and unplanned maintenance of products including but not limited to flow, pressure, temperature, level meters and continuous water/gas analyzers
  • Ability to build strong customer relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with minimum supervision
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills
  • Customer service oriented
  • Strong computer skills to include Outlook, Excel and Word
  • Ability and willingness to travel approximately 50% as required
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
