The Tire Dissection Technician focuses on performing routine and semi-routine laboratory operations to support Research and Development operations. This position requires basic knowledge of job procedures and tools obtained through work experience, may require vocational or technical education, and works under moderate supervision. Learn and consistently demonstrate proficiency in skill sets within and potentially outside the normal work area. Maintains and improves safety, quality and productivity levels. Problems are typically of a routine nature but may at times require interpretation or deviation from standard procedures. This position will communicate information that requires some explanation or interpretation. Technicians typically work one of the following schedules - they work 5 days per week for 8 hours per day, or they work 4 days per week for 10 hours per day and they work either Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday. * Use general hand tools/knives to dissect tire sections in order to prepare test specimens
* Use general power equipment (e.g. bandsaw and grinding wheel) to prepare specimens
* Use various laboratory rubber testing equipment
* Use basic computer skills. (e.g. Excel, Power Point...)
* Works on assignments that are semi-routine in nature but recognizes the need for occasional deviation from accepted practice
* Normally follows established procedures on routine work, requires instructions only on new assignments
* Sets up, configures, installs, and maintains laboratory equipment
* Follows instructions and checklists to operate equipment used in testing samples
* Compiles data, operating records, and reports of test results
* Controls stocks of materials
* Performs safety program checks
* Performs preventive maintenance on laboratory instruments
* Other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

1-2 years of mechanical or rubber/polymer work experience

Typically requires a minimum of 1-2 years of related experience; High School or GED
