Determines computing resource requirements, schedules and monitors production jobs for mainframe to ensure jobs and activities are completed accurately and on-time to ensure proper processing of items or escalation to the right groups for speedy resolution and minimum impact on business.
1. EXPECTATIONS A fully qualified, intermediate member of the production control family, the Production Control job encompasses various data control, and scheduling responsibilities of operations. Controllers apply a broad working knowledge of computing/operating concepts, practices and procedures to ensure the timely scheduling and processing of source data and reports in support of designated system (s). The controller generally works on moderately complex assignments, equipment and/or operating environment referring to established procedures. Typically operates independently to resolve standard scheduling problems, but work is generally closely monitored. Errors may cause delay, expense and/or disruption in customer activities.
  • Determines computing resource requirements, such as disk space, memory, and priority considerations necessary to support designated user(s)/reporting systems. May conduct research including discussion with users, technical and operations staff, i.e. analyzing internal user procedures, process/work flow, and deadlines. May make recommendations to user to enhance scheduling and processing
  • May verify input/output count for accuracy and duplicate checking
  • Evaluates processing workload and schedules jobs to meet functional deadlines and to maximize utilization of resources using job-scheduling software.
  • Resolves scheduling conflicts with user and operations staff
  • Troubleshoots processing problems and resubmits jobs as necessary and/or escalates to supervision
  • Ensures availability of hardware and associated equipment, resources, etc. monitoring execution from console or workstation
  • Responds to requests from systems and applications software, hardware support personnel and users for general production control assistance.
  • May develop or modify job control language and procedures as necessary
  • May perform or assist in performing various associated I/O operations and library functions such as error recovery/retrievals (where specific procedures are defined), data/document control and report distribution/data output. May also perform client file maintenance as required
  • Maintains associated production reports, logs, etc. in support of function
  • Checks clients and ensures transmissions of claims
  • Balances the workload between the sites
  • Troubleshoots technical and logistical issues
  • May assist in preparation of monthly workload forecasts and coordinates or assists in the coordination of schedules with user(s)
  • Ensures that appropriate billing records are generated for each job
  • Prepares daily and monthly reports for senior management on diverse metrics
  • High School graduate or 3 years minimum work experience. Specialized vocational, trade school or equivalent
  • 80% English proficiency, both verbal and written
1-3 years progressively responsible related experience demonstrating familiarity with a broad range of medium and large scale computer systems, platforms, peripherals and standard operating procedures including a basic working knowledge of scheduling and job data
  • Management languages such as SQL, access etc. Previous experience as a computer operator is desired but not required.
  • Flexibility and the ability to operate under stressful, time-sensitive production deadlines

  • Good customer service orientation; responsiveness to deadlines.
  • Maturity of judgment under pressure/ability to identify scheduling problems and to mediate or escalate problems without delay to appropriate levels for resolution.
