Our Process Engineers are focused on helping the Company achieve its mission – to be the quality leader in the market.  The Casting and Rolling Subject Matter Expert will be a highly experienced Process Engineer who knows how to work in a collaborative environment, regularly interacting with operations, engineering, and quality departments. 

As Exide's casting and rolling subject matter expert, this role will report into Exide corporate engineering with oversight of multiple Exide locations, collaborating with and mentoring local plant process and manufacturing engineers.  The work and role are visible and impacts the plant manager as well as Vice Presidents of Operations, Engineering and Quality.   

  • Be the company expert on casting and rolling of wide strip lead for use in our battery production
  • As the company expert, you will support all strip production operations at Exide, from your base location in our Kansas City, MO plant
  • You will champion and drive continuous improvement to reduce scrap and increase uptime and quality
  • With each improvement initiative, you will partner with quality and operations to document the PFMEA, process specifications, and site control plan, as well as insure that supervisors and operators are trained on the process improvement.
  • As Exide grows, you will scope and lead strip capacity growth projects, interacting with equipment suppliers to identify and select appropriate equipment and processes
  • Be a change agent, respecting and challenging historical practices, to unlock untapped capability by bringing a fundamental physical understanding of the casting and rolling process
  • Review and drive measurement system and data reporting improvements to insure process performance is dependably reported with actionable and dependable data.
  • You see yourself as a leader and influencer, with a track record of growing the profit through cost savings or productivity in your day to day actions.
  • You will have a BS in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Metallurgy. 
  • You have at least 3-5 years of direct experience in roll mill operations, with a track record of driving operational excellence
  • You know that teamwork is key to success and have demonstrated examples where you either led or played an important role.
  • You know that work is a verb – and see yourself as a player/coach, willing and able to give direction, and willing and able to roll up your sleeves when needed 
  • You might have AutoCAD or similar experience as there may be potential for equipment or parts design/modification.
  • Strong computer skills, including knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, Excel and database software, have helped you track, analyze, form conclusions and communicate a message throughout your career.
  • Six sigma certification is a strong plus, and should you be selected for the role without this certification, Exide will sponsor and pay for your training/certification
  • You respect and advocate for EHS policies that protect people and operations

About the work environment:

  • You will work in both office and manufacturing environments.  Battery manufacturing employs chemicals, heat and heavy equipment, and as such you will at times be exposed to lead, fumes, noise, dirt, hazards, and chemicals, and in all cases will be provided with appropriate PPE.   
  • You must be able to see, hear and speak; able to sit, stand for at least two hours at a time, sit, bend, crawl, squat, kneel and climb able to use both arms and hands to use a computer and peripherals and lift 40 pounds from floor level, able to work below ground level in confined spaces and on stationary or mobile elevated platforms, able to wear respirator and other personal protective equipment (PPE) as required, able to climb stairs.
  • Travel may be required for training and to other company sanctioned events.
