In service to this mission, the Optum Genomics team is committed to sourcing high-quality genomics data to inform more complete view of health, to provide more contextualized data to drive desired health behaviors, to help route our customers to the most effective and affordable choices, and to facilitate the evidence needed to get impactful genomics products into the clinic quickly and responsibly.

The Project Manager role will be a key asset to the Optum Genomics team and will support multiple initiatives through the management of multiple projects.  This role will manage a diverse set of projects and requires a strong background in providing on-time deliverables for multiple stakeholders throughout the organization.  This includes the management of a project timeline inclusive of dependencies, the creation of various project charters for emerging products, the ability to own and drive meetings for projects, and demonstrate a collaborative approach to risk / issue mitigation. This person must convince leaders and operators of his / her value, earn their trust and time, and work collaboratively to build actionable strategies.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Define, document, and execute on project scope / objectives

  • Set and manage stakeholder expectations, internally and with any external clients

    arise, present options for risk mitigation and problem resolution

  • Design a project plan with actionable and timely tasks for project team members, both internal and external 

  • Provide concise project status updates to various stakeholders as needed for each project

  • Complete frequent retrospectives at the end of project phases to look for areas of improvement 

  • Utilize project management industry best practices, techniques, and standards

  • Create and maintain detailed project documentation

  • Ensure project delivery is on time, on scope, and on budget

  • Manage cross-organizational collaboration to ensure full engagement on project deliverables 

  • Provide research support to Optum Genomics Evidence Generation signed projects, including participation in client project discussions and presentation of project timelines for key deliverables

  • Provide support for draft and final client project deliverables/reports, including interpretation and quality review

  • Perform timeline reviews and map performance against goals

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare, Public Health, Genomics or related field

  • 3+ years of demonstrated experience simultaneously managing multiple high-visibility research projects, ranging from 6-12 months in length with total value over $1M

  • 3+ years of experience in healthcare project management

  • 2+ years of experience in healthcare research project management

  • 1+ years of program management experience; coordinating pilot activities and / or technology implementation plans

  • Professional experience indicating success managing multiple projects with tight deadlines

  • Proven experience in using popular project management tools such as Smartsheet, Aha!, ITSM, ServiceNow, MS Project, MS Visio, MS PowerPoint, MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook

  • Experience creating detailed project plans and schedules with the ability to follow through on actions needed to adhere to the timeline

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in healthcare, public health, genomics or related field

  • Deep knowledge of project management frameworks and best practices

  • Subject knowledge of genomics / precision medicine field 

  • Excellent communication, time/project management, problem solving, organizational skills and analytical skills

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Proven organizational skills with ability to be flexible and work with ambiguity

  • Exceptional ability to drive results through strong collaborating and influencing skills across all business segments and geographies

  • Background in health economics and outcomes (HEOR) research

California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York City, or Washington Residents Only Residents Only: The salary range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York City, or Washington residents is $85,000 to $167,300. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
