This is a Test Evaluation and Support Team contract position (TEST2) at the NASA White Sands Test Facility. This is a modifed fulltime position.
Must be able to apply working technical knowledge to perform simple or routine hardware cleaning tasks following detailed instructions, which cover virtually all procedures. Must be able to make electrical and mechanical connections to valves, flexhoses, hardlines and welded assemblies to facilitate cleaning. Must be able to update data in personal computer and print reports and be able to operate laboratory, field and facility equipment. Must possess a working knowledge of safety regulations and procedures pertaining to hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals. Must have working technical knowledge of safe handling and preparation of chemical solutions. Performs work and maintains work area in a neat, orderly, and safe manner. Performs related duties as required.
Requires a high school degree or its equivalent. Must have two (2) years of applicable experience or related civilian/military trade school training or equivalent. Be able to perform duties consistent with this classification as assigned by management. Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license (state). Must pass pre-employment physical examination to include drug screening as determined by the White Sands Test Facility (WSTF) and Jacobs Engineering. Must pass a Federal background investigation for access to government facilities. Be able to meet the requirements for certification, if applicable, as specified in the White Sands Training Database (WSTD).
UNUSUAL OR SPECIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION
Position is located on a hazardous testing facility; must be able to quickly evacuate buildings in the event of an emergency. Job entails standing for extended periods, lifting up to 40 pounds, and dealing with noise-level of continuous running machinery. Traveling to other work areas, being aware of situational safety requirements, and working with constraints (e.g. access procedures and proper PPE) also required. Additional physical requirements of stooping, crawling, and climbing to access and work on equipment will occasionally be necessary. The ability to work in confined spaces and on elevated platforms when needed.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT
Primary work area is a shop/laboratory environment and at times an environmentally and contamination controlled work space. Duties will require travel to other on-site locations, including offices, warehouses, and test facilities. Occasional off-site travel will also be necessary. Position requires individual to travel to different areas on site; walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand is required to access various locations on the facility. Must be able to function as a member of a team in a fast paced environment. All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and Company safety standards. Performs work and maintains work area in a neat and orderly manner.
EQUIPMENT AND MACHINES INVOLVED IN WORK TASKS
Job includes driving full sized pick-up trucks and vans. Use of computer, calculator, printer, fax, scanner, telephone, filing cabinets, and other standard office equipment may be required to perform assigned duties. Computer skills include proficiency with Microsoft Office applications Word, Excel, and Access. Proficiency with tooling required to make electrical and mechanical connection to valves, flex hoses, hard lines and welded assemblies. Working knowledge of equipment required in the preparation of chemical solutions, of safety equipment pertaining to hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals (e.g. Personal Protective Equipment and meters such as compound specific gas analyzers Draeger PAC monitors). Equipment and chemicals required to obtain precision cleaned products of various sizes and configurations. Use of material handling/moving equipment and handheld radios as assigned.
CRITICALITY OF ATTENDANCE
Attendance and punctuality are critical in this highly collaborative environment. Employee must be on the job at proper times to interact with managers, lead engineers and customers to accomplish work as scheduled. Overtime or varied shift work may be required in support of test project schedules or other priority assignments as determined by management.
OTHER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Must be able to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization. Must work well under pressure to meet deadline requirements. Dress must be appropriate for the position and not pose a safety risk or hazard to the employee or others in accordance with NASA and Company policies. Must be able to pass a physical examination as determined by the NASA White Sands Test Facility and the Company for the job classification. If applicable to the specific job assignment, must possess and maintain a valid drivers license. Must be a U.S Citizen. Must pass a Federal background investigation. Must maintain access to government owned facilities and computer systems.
