JOB TITLE: Senior Grant Writer

DEPARTMENT: Development

REPORTS TO: Grants Manager

SALARY RANGE: $30-$32 per hour

POSITION STATUS: Non-Exempt-Full-time - 40 hours per week

StarVista is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has helped people of all ages throughout San Mateo County navigate life challenges for over 55 years. Our mental health, crisis intervention, youth housing, substance use, and early childhood services help thousands of individuals each year. We are seeking a passionate, creative and collaborative professional to fill the role of Senior Grant Writer. The Senior Grant Writer is a key member of StarVista's dynamic Grants team and works closely with the Development team and other StarVista teams to grow and sustain funding to support StarVista's nearly 30 programs

POSITION PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES:

The Senior Grant Writer is a full-time position that reports directly to the Grants Manager. This position will support the implementation and maintenance of a comprehensive grants program, including public and private grant funders. This role is responsible for grant writing and reporting, prospecting, researching, stewardship, and other grant-related tasks as listed below.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Grant Writing
  • Explore and conduct prospect research to identify potential funding sources from foundations, government, and corporations based on StarVista's organizational priorities
  • Write clear, compelling and effective grant requests andproposals
  • Research and utilize data to support grant proposals and reports
  • Collaborate with StarVista staff to ensure grant applications accurately reflect program activities, deliverables and outcomes
  • Ensure grant assignments are submitted on time and in accordance with the grant funder's requirements
  • Maintain complete records of past and current grant proposals and reports using the Grants team's grant management systems
Relationship Building
  • Cultivate and steward relationships with public and private grantmaking staff
  • Communicate with current and prospective funding organizations regarding new grant opportunities, status of grant applications, and other items as appropriate
  • Collaborate with Grants team to ensure timely distribution of grant stewardship touchpoints with grant partners
  • Build/maintain relationships with StarVista staff through ongoing collaboration
Additional Responsibilities
  • Attend Development team and Grants team meetings
  • Collaborate with team members on Grants team projects as needed (e.g., creating/updating internal team procedures or systems)
  • Support the Development team with annual events and campaigns as needed
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  • Excellent writing and editing skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Adept, proactive communication skills (email, phone, Microsoft Teams, in-person)
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, prioritization and time management skills
  • Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Flexible, resourceful, creative problem-solver
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently under minimal supervision as well as in a team environment
  • Ability to follow a consistent schedule
  • Ability to work from StarVista's Pacifica, California office as needed (at least weekly)
  • Ability to pass fingerprint and TB clearance required
Required Experience
  • 2-3 years of grant experience including prospecting, proposal writing, and reporting
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Sharepoint, etc.), Adobe Acrobat, and utilizing the internet to research
  • Experience utilizing Airtable helpful but not required
