Zoning & Community Relations Coordinator - Birdseye Renewable Energy Charlotte, NC

Job Summary
Birdseye Renewable Energy (“BRE”) is a wholly owned affiliate of Dominion Generation, Inc. based in Charlotte, NC. BRE has twin priorities. First, BRE leads utility scale solar and storage development of contracted assets with key C&I and utility customers in select markets within the broad geography of “Eastern US” for ownership by Dominion Generation. Second, BRE supports the development of solar (and battery storage) assets in the Commonwealth of Virginia in furtherance of the Virginia Clean Economy Act
Oversees community engagement and work closely with the Solar Project Development Team to serve as the face of Birdseye with local project stakeholders including landowners, elected officials, planning department staff, local taxing authorities, local contractors, and other local stakeholders.
Secure land use (i.e. CUP and Zoning Variance) permits for greenfield and third-party-acquired solar and battery storage projects across multiple local, state, and federal jurisdictions.
Successfully negotiate project design and mitigation measures with local authorities to ensure project moves into the life cycle.
Manage utility-scale solar developments throughout the Eastern United States, overseeing and acquiring all permits needed for corresponding jurisdiction(s).
Perform necessary entitlement due diligence for prospective and acquired projects.
Engage necessary experts for public hearings and manage the process, including contracts, scheduling, payment and scope management.
Responsible for media inquiries and public relation pieces.
Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
The knowledge, skills, abilities and experiences that are required for entry into this job include the following:
5-6+ years of experience working in business, public utilities, environmental research, real estate or public service.
At least 3 years of directly experience in zoning, county government and/or community relations.
Bargaining and negotiation experience and ability to assist in developing leasing and land agreement strategies
Proficiency in all aspects of land management
Knowledge of probate, contract, and real estate laws
Knowledge of state and local laws concerning royalty ownership, laws of descent, storage rights and property rights
Full knowledge of local, state and federal laws concerning permitting
Knowledge of courthouse record keeping at the county level
Ability to communicate effectively, speak persuasively and develop rapport internally and externally
Ability to prepare reports, letters, memos and to maintain documentation
Ability to plan and organize and work independently
Ability to perform calculations and land valuations
Ability to interpret maps, plats, blueprints, plans and surveys
Must demonstrate strong attention to detail and the ability to solve complex problems with little, to no, supervision
Must be able to demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or more rounds to one full year of qualifications.
