Job Overview:

Provide support for project and creative development to the design team across assigned Store Environment project types. Mentorship by Sr Design Executives to create and implement original project design concepts and brand standards and facilitate critical project communication with peers, executives and consultants in support of project goals. Develop concept packages and perform a supporting role in presentations to Macy’s Sr Management. Perform market and retail design trend research to support Store Environment and Company strategies. Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:

Creative Development
  • Support the Sr. Designer and design team for assigned Store Environment project categories including but not limited to:

    • Capital Project New Store/Remodels and Expansions. 

    • Facilities Customer Facing/Merchandising Fixture Initiatives/Key FOB Signature business and Customer Service strategies including Field Projects, Beauty, Fragrance, RTW, Big Ticket, Vendor GMM, Personal Shopper and Technology/Omnichannel that drive sales and improve the customer’s shopping experience. 

  • Execute support for project design responsibilities including: market and concept trend research, presentation preparation, implementation of key retail strategies, Perimeter and Loose Fixture design development, Color/Material concept development and application of design Brand Standards. 

  • Implement existing Brand Standards, scaling appropriately as budgets require, assuring brand consistency across projects.

  • Utilize AutoCAD expertise and all other required technical tools, to efficiently execute supporting documentation for all phases of Store Environment projects.  

Project Management/Personal Growth and Development

  • Successfully prioritize tasks and efficiently manage workloads, meetings and design milestones, adhering to challenging schedules and budgets.

  • Develop leadership qualities by facilitating a lead role in select brand initiatives and actively mentor student interns.

  • Hone and consistently exhibit exceptional communication skills and embrace personal accountability.

  • Regular, dependable attendance and punctuality. 

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • Minimum of a BA or BS degree earned from an accredited university limited to the fields of Architecture or Interior Design.

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a design role in the field of retail design.

Communication Skills:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with professionalism and confidence with Peers, Sr Management and Consultants.

Mathematical Skills:
  • Basic math functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and analytical skills.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and make sound decisions.

Physical Demands:
  • This position involves regular walking, standing, sitting for extended periods of time, hearing, and talking.

  • May occasionally involve stooping, kneeling, or crouching.

  • May involve close vision, color vision, depth perception, focus adjustment, and viewing computer monitor for extended periods of time. 

  • Involves manual dexterity for using keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.

  • May involve moving or lifting items under 10 pounds.

Other Skills:

  • Exemplar proficiency in all digital tools ranging from AutoCAD, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Digital/3D Modeling, Sketch-up and/or 3D Studio Max, Adobe Acrobat, MS Office suite (Word, Excel, etc.).

Work Hours:

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
