Sr. Tax Accountant

Cactus Wellhead LLC Houston, TX (Onsite) Full-Time

JOB SUMMARY: We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Senior Tax Accountant to join our Tax Department in a dynamic, fast-paced public company environment. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in tax accounting, reporting, and compliance, and the ability to assist in a wide range of tax-oriented projects. You will be responsible for supporting tax compliance and reporting activities, including preparation and review of federal, state, and international tax filings for the company and its subsidiaries, while ensuring adherence to tax regulations and corporate policies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Practice safe work habits and comply with all quality, safety, health and environmental policies, procedures, programs and regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

TAX COMPLIANCE AND REPORTING:

  • Prepare and review federal, state, and local income tax returns (including forms 1120, 1065, and related schedules), sales and use tax returns, and other related filings.
  • Assist in preparing quarterly and annual tax provisions in accordance with ASC 740.
  • Prepare supporting documentation and perform detailed analysis for tax compliance and reporting purposes.
  • Assist with the preparation of transfer pricing documentation and related compliance requirements.

TAX ACCOUNTING & ANALYSIS:

  • Assist in the calculation of the Company’s tax provision, deferred taxes, and analysis of current and deferred tax accounts.
  • Perform tax research and analysis to ensure proper tax treatment of transactions and compliance with tax laws.
  • Review the Company's financial statements for completeness and accuracy of tax-related entries.
  • Support the quarterly review and annual audit process with external auditors.

TAX PLANNING & ADVISORY:

  • Assist in various tax planning and restructuring projects, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and international tax matters.
  • Provide support in evaluating new tax legislation and its potential impact on the Company’s tax positions and operations.
  • Assist in developing strategies to optimize the Company's tax position while ensuring compliance with regulations.

PROCESS IMPROVEMENT & EFFICIENCY:

  • Identify and implement opportunities for improving tax compliance processes and efficiency.
  • Work closely with other departments (e.g., Accounting, Treasury and Legal) to streamline tax-related workflows.
  • Assist with developing and implementing tax policies and procedures.

RISK MANAGEMENT & DOCUMENTATION:

  • Assist in identifying and managing tax risks and ensure proper documentation of tax positions.
  • Support tax audits and inquiries from tax authorities, preparing responses to requests for information.
  • Monitor compliance with internal controls and corporate governance policies related to tax.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting from an accredited college. Master’s degree in tax preferred.
  • 2+ years’ experience in Federal, State, and/or Local taxation.
  • Experience with Partnerships.
  • Experience with Umbrella Partnership – C-Corp structures a plus.
  • Experience with OneSource/GoSystems tax compliance software a plus.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSE, REGISTRATIONS: CPA preferred.

JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrate competence in corporate and partnership tax knowledge.
  • Experience with U.S. federal, state and local reporting requirements.
  • In-depth knowledge of tax code, compliance and procedures for corporations.
  • Sound accounting, analytical, and research skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong experience with a variety of tax operations.
  • Effective ability to utilize project management and accounting best practices to organize and prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to work well independently as well as under the direction of the Tax Manager and Tax Director.
  • Solid organizational and interpersonal skills.
