Job Description

Job Overview:  Assists skilled craftsperson in the performance of their duties by performing supportive type chores as directed by the craftsperson. The helper primarily assists the journey carpenter on all work activities.Normal work environment will be shop or field which will require exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, working near moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals and airborne particles.Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
  • Can and often performs journey tasks, contingent on the level of experience and directions from the journey carpenter.
  • Assist in staging materials and necessary tools to execute each work activity, and will assist in the layout and measuring of materials for installation.
  • Will often perform runner/expeditor functions within the crew or for the craftsperson as well as running down the Foreman or General Foreman to answer questions or provide additional information.
  • Is responsible for retrieving all necessary tools from the tool room on a daily basis to support the days specific activity.
Basic Qualifications:                   
  • 18-36 months of documented field experience in chosen craft discipline.
  • May require a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Able to perform some support tasks with close supervision/direction and support.
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret instructions and documentation.
  • The degree of job responsibilities and requirements may vary depending on months of experience.
Desired/Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to effectively verbally communicate directions from craft supervisors, and respond to questions from managers and fellow workers.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Must supply own tools appropriate for basic tasks
