Job Description

Job Title: Plant Engineer

Basic Function: Safety and Environmental awareness is of paramount concern in all job functions. The Plant Engineer position leads by example, by facilitating and promoting a positive and open safety culture, as well as a diligent and effective environmental program. Receives general direction from the Plant Manager in the performance of engineering work in the operations, maintenance, design, investigation and construction of power plants; plans, organizes and supervises the work of staff/contractors involved in maintenance, operation and repair of various plant systems in the power plant; responsible for plant performance monitoring and regulatory compliance. This is considered a management position where on call duties, fill in for other managers and direct supervision of plant employees is a requirement of the position.
Reports to: Plant Manager
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
In coordination with plant staff and under the direction of the Plant Manager:
• Responsible for coordinating, developing, implementing and maintaining the plant design change process.
• Oversees the sites high energy piping, FAC, pressure vessel, and other inspection and/or regulatory programs.
• Coordination and oversight of plant performance testing activities in accordance with permits and agreements.
• Responsible for maintaining accurate, organized and accessible technical drawings and documents for all systems and equipment at the site.
• Oversees compliance with regulatory programs including NERC, NPCC and DOE.
• Support the operation and maintenance of site water treatment systems. Review and monitor chemistry logs and parameters. Provide engineering guidance and recommendations to maintain a reliable water treatment and cycle chemistry process.
• Coordinate, oversee and maintain performance monitoring, forecasting models and other plant diagnostic programs.
• Create new or revised system or equipment design proposals for approval as needed (including budgetary considerations).
• Support and participate in the Root Cause Analysis process.
• Participate in the planning and scheduling of all plant activities including maintenance overhauls.
• Assist in the development and administration of the department’s engineering and inspection budget.
• Prepare periodic (daily, weekly, monthly, etc.) operating reports and summaries as assigned.
• Develop contracts, in coordination with others, and oversee performance of contractors required for on-site maintenance, services, equipment rentals, and operations training.
• Assist and / or lead the planning and executing of plant outages to meet facility and company goals.
• Participate in the recruitment and selection process for maintenance and operations personnel.
• Participate in the ongoing development, improvement and revision of applicable policies, standards and procedures as assigned. Particularly those that apply to engineering activities in the facility.
• Perform other duties and administrative tasks as assigned.

1. Typical candidates would have a bachelor’s degree in engineering, at least 5 years of relevant experience and / or a combination of relevant experience and education specific to engineering in power plants / heavy industrial processes.
2. Power generation experience in gas turbine power plant operations and the ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills commensurate with that experience. Intimate knowledge and experience with the design and engineering of combined cycle or thermal power plants is highly desirable.
3. Skill in communicating effectively.
4. Experience with computer software programs such as MS word, Excel, Power Point, CAD and MS projects is highly desired.
5. Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems.
6. Experience with the construction, commissioning and operations of combined cycle facilities is desired.
